Well I've just got round to setting up an itunes store account and want to get some more blues. I've got quite a lot of compilations but want some classic blues albums so one of each for the three kings etc.
Suggestions please!
-
Blues Breakers - Beano album (with Clapton) and Hard Road (with Peter Green)
Allman Bros - Live At the Fillmore East
Joe Bonamassa - Sloe Gin and The Ballad Of John Henry
:)
-
Cheers Twinfan, I've got the Beano Album but will check the other two out :D
Looking for some good Chicago and delta stuff too....
-
The audio quality might not be good but they very important ! . "The Best of Charley Patton"(Yazoo), Skip James/Hard Time Killin' Floor(Yazoo), "The Very Best of Son House", " The Very Best of Lightnin' Hopkins ".
-
King of the Delta Blues Singers - Robert Johnson. Live at the regal B B King. Try and get some T Bone Walker and Son House and some Peter Green/early Fleetwood Mac.
-
Try BB King - Live at the Regal
Jazzy blues = Robben Ford/Matt Schofield - Talk to your daughter/Ear to the ground
Robert Johnson - from four till late
Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac - Greatest hits (it's got the great ones on!)
DAMN YOU 38th!!!
-
Great minds think alike my Equine Cranium friend.
-
probably way too obvious, but SRV kicks ass.
-
+ many on the Son House thing - there's nothing quite like him...
-
Thanks Guys,
I have nearly all of the early Fleetwood Mac and SRV stuff (and it great!) but I like the suggestions like Son House, I'll check them out...and BB king Live at the Regal I've heard mentioned a lot.
What about Freddie King and Albert King, what are their classic albums?
-
anything by...
Paul Lamb & The King Snakes
Nine Below Zero
Ry Cooder (especially ry cooder)

I don't know about individual albums, but there are some great compilations.
There's a really good 2-disc Albert King "Ultimate Collection" on Rhino Records.
-
You gotta have Howlin Wolf and Muddy Waters :) I got a couple of recent "best ofs", both double CDs, no idea what they're called, but they got everything what you need
And I didn't notice John Lee Hooker in the list above?
And check out a current English chap called Ian Siegal - especially "Swagger" and "Meat and Potatos", but anything by him that you can lay your paws on...
-
Buddy Guy - Damn Right, I got the Blues
Albert King - King of the Blues Guitar
Elmore James - The Sky is Crying
Freddie King - Stayin' Home with the Blues
Howlin' Wolf - all of it
-
John Mayall - Blues from Laurel Canyon
-
For delta blues check out Pristine Audio's remastering technique - alot of the dullness, crackles and scratches are stripped away bringing out the music, and especially the guitar - the Charlie Patton and Skip James are especially good comparted to the CD collections currently available.
Unfortunately no Son House as yet.

Y'know how when you play metal backwards, you're supposed to get satanic messages?
What do you get when you play the blues backwards?
Your wife comes back, you get your job back, your car and house are returned to you, your dog comes back to life and you sell your guitar.
-
Also Mississippi Fred McDowell - I Don't Play No Rock'n'Roll - is a masterly delta style slide album -
RL Burnside Mississippi Hill Country Blues is another corker.
-
I would suggest some Elmore James, Eddie Boyd, Lightnin' Hopkins, Lowell Fulson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Otis Rush, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, J B Lenoir. There are a number of great current young players too.
