Title: Great guitarist and great singer

Just trawling you tube and came across some of Dan Huff's studio work. Didn't realise he was the lead singer of Giant.
It's rare that people are a great technical guitarist and can belt out great lead vocals as well
I'm thinking Richie Kotzen is a rare example of someone technically very adept at both crafts (although I'm not a massive fan)

Most great guitar players are average singers e.g Gary Moore, Paul Gilbert. Or vice versa great singers are average guitar players
I know the obvious ones, but enlighten me
Who else can really sing and is technically a great player as well?

I dunno man, some of Gary Moore's 80's vocals were awesome. He could really hit the highs back then.

I'd also name John Sykes as a great singer/guitarist. David Gilmour pops to mind, not that hes a technical wizard on guitar, but hes fantastic, and his voice is amazing too.

emmm...Richie Sambora? Rory Gallagher.

Dave Meniketti from Y&T
Sammy Hagar
Justin Hawkins (if you like his vocal style)
Ace Frehley
Marc Torien from The Bulletboys

Kotzen is the one for me, I like his voice even better than his playing.

+1 to Meniketti and Gilmour.

Warren Haynes - wonderful singer and player.
Jonny Lang - what an incredible voice that kid had, even on his first album when he was about 15!
Ty Tabor from King's X - not the strongest voice, but very pleasant and melodic.
Chris Cornell - mainly a singer, but no slouch on guitar.
Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton - Marriott more for the vocals, Frampton more for the guitar, but they were both very capable in all departments.

And some great singing bass players:

Jack Bruce
Geddy Lee
Phil Lynott
James Dewar
dUg Pinnick

Then there are loads of guys (like Gary Moore) who don't necessarily have amazing voices, but have loads of character and certainly get the job done.  And guys who weren't originally the singers in their bands but turned out to be pretty good anyway:

Jerry Cantrell
Eric Clapton
Leslie West
Jon Butcher (anyone remember him?)
Jimi Hendrix
SRV
Richard Thompson
(the young) Peter Green
James Hetfield
Rick Derringer
Andy Powell
Jason Bieler
Nuno Bettencourt

(Showing my age here, aren't I?  )

Random choice here.............Chuck Billy from Testament, amazing voice and really good guitar player (has been playing since he was 14) saw a video ages ago with him noodling backstage and it was good.

Not sure whether he's ever appeared on any albums (think he may have guested on some albums)

Eric Clapton
Mark Knopfler
David Gilmour
Matt Bellamy
Franck Black
Jimi Hendrix
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Lenny Kravitz
popa chubby
Zakk Wylde
James Hetfield
Chris Cornell
Kurt Cobain (not sure he was a great guitarist or even a great singer though...but he was great with a guitar in hands in front of a microphone...)

Philly mentioned some Bass players who sing too. Not a great voice but singing whilst playing the type of style he does, not many come close to Les Claypool! He's also eccentric and very charismatic too, heh.

I'm going to check these out after playing football tonight

Big +1 on John Mayer! He's a great player, with a fantastic voice. I've been learning Good Love is on the Way, and it's hellish hard to play right and sing, especially when, like me, you're mediocre at both!

Don't mean this in an argumentative way, but I just don't "get" John Mayer.  He does absolutely nothing for me.  :?

I think I need to listen to him more to see if his songs grow on you

Just been looking at all this stuff has made me trawl through some of Mr Kotzen's videos.
He does so many quirky things on a technical level
Guthrie Govan clearly loves his playing
Far too many notes :)

After reading the thread on Zappa plays EVH, I think that a mention needs to go to both Frank Zappa and Dweezil Zappa - saw the ZPZ gig on artsworld a month or so ago and DZ is an amazing guitarist with a very good voice, listened to some of the original tracks and Frank was awesome too.

If I looked like that I'd probably go shirtless too...

That's fair enough Philly.  :) I didn't used to like his stuff to be honest, but I'd only ever heard the poppy side. It was his blues playing and the stuff he did with Pino Palladino and Steve Jordan, as the John Mayer Trio, that got me into his playing.

Oh definitely!

The solo stuff is ignorable :P

Get Continuum.

I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet, but Jeff Lang is amazing.

I love how he mixes acoustic and electric..

I've never heard of him, but I've enjoyed watching his YouTube clips for the last half hour.

His appearance has changed a lot over the years - I wasn't sure it was the same bloke a few times!
