I've been using a first gen Fender Blues Deluxe amp, it's actually a really nice sound clean with mild break up. My only gripe is at some gigs it's not quite loud enough without too much break up, so I've been plugging it into my 1922 cab with 2 x G12M 25w greenbacks. I'm considering buying a head for more normal/larger sizes gigs, so I'm looking for something no more than 50watt with that solid clean sound that can be muddied up ok and has a good on board reverb.
I'd also like it if possible to have a small physical footprint to sit nice on the 1922 cab, as when I use the DSL amp with it it hangs over.
There are obvious options such as two rocks and matchless but they are both coming in at 3K+ each and I can't warrent it.
Be interested in your opinions.

How about a Fender Supersonic head? It has two great, loud clean channels. Not sure its a small enough footprint though.

Does the head version of the supersonic have reverb?
Thought it was only the combo

G12Ms aren't the most efficient of speakers, so you could try some more efficient loudspeakers.
Have you thought of micing your amp?

Orange Rockerverb 50W
(W x H x D) 55 x 25.5 x 28cm
Not sure if that fits though.

Oh yeah, You're right Jon, the Supersonic head doesn't have reverb.

i sold my Blues Deluxe a few months ago... replaced it with an MJW Roadstar 36 with 6V6's and voiced cleaner. I'm very happy with the results. The clean isn't 'fendery' clean, nor 'marshally', i'd say it sits somewhere in between! There is no reverb on my amp (i very rarely use it, if i needed it i'd go and reach for a pedal, or ask Martin to build it in the amp) It stays cleaner for longer the the blues deluxe, my old amp started to break up around 2 on the volume, and that was with a 5751 valve in V1. With a strat/tele the MJW stays clean half way up, When it breaks up it does it in a very musical way. I was having a proper John Mayer moment during a rehearsal the other night with a strat and a TS-9!
If that isn't doing it for you, then a Fender Hot Rod has a cleaner for longer thing going on, and a better drive channel. Or a Laney VC30...

sorry should have said I've had a few mods to my Fender amp, just change of tubes to give it more head room / cleaner for longer.
Yes I do mic the amp, just trying to find raw amp sound
all good suggestions so far, not a massive fan of orange amps so that's out.

I'd either go with more efficent speakers g12m is 98db sensitivity were as say the g12h is 100db that would give quite a big volume increase.....otherwise..go see martin MJW amp to mod yours or buy one of his to your spec/sound
