Hi, first poster here.
I'm looking for new pickups for my Ibanez RG-1527, and got recommended at another forum to check out Bare Knuckle Pickups. So long, so good. Untill I started looking into the several models... There was too many to pick, and the descriptions were not the best ones...
So which pickups are both hi-gain alike and clean/warm?
I enjoy the sounds of Meshuggah, Bloodbath, Opeth and The Faceless.
To the facts of the guitar.
It is a basswood guitar with 5-pc maple/wenge neck and floyd rose equipped.
I've checked out the Nailbomb pickups, will those do the job or?
edit: forgot to mention that I want them to have much clarity and sound organic...
-
I have nailbombs, and clarity and organicness are definately the traits of the pup - I use a RG7321 and play thrash/prog cleans are nice and sparkly in the split positions, drives are defined, clear and open
-
nailbombs are good, and clear for those progressive tones and i hear they could get damn dirty......but i think a ceramic would suit Messhugah and the Faceless a little better. Like a miracle man or c-pig or ceramic nailbomb.....im no expert though
-
Yeah, not heard much Meshuggah or the Faceless, so can't comment on their tones, i only have opeths watershed album, and they don't have such a high gain sound, so NB's would suit that quite well.
see whether you can pm MDV as he seems to be in the know for a lot of 7 string stuff and heavier music genres.
failing that...........call Tim
-
I'd be tempted to say Nailbomb as well for heavier styles. let's not forget chris broderick is an ibanez and nailbomb user.
from what i've heard, the warmer nailbomb fits very well with the floating trems, balances out the lack of string contact with the wood.
-
i agree with the broderick comment and the bombs getting dirty, but for messhuggah or the faceless? theyre super tight and get very brutal.............id say miracle man, painkiller or ceramic warpig
-
in that case, painkiller for maximum djent efficiency!
-
Its a bit of a tricky one. All the tones can be pretty much nailed, but not with the same pickup.
Opeth and bloodbath would be nailbomb and mehsuggah and faceless would be painkiller. I think your best bet at getting both is probably painkillers.
-
Does Chris Broderick use Nailbombs? Hmm... Interesting....
So you guys would recommend the Painkillers?
But I'm not so into the djent... Do they do cleans well, or do I have to split them to get some nice tones??
-
I think I read somewhere Broderick moved to a Cold sweat for both neck and bridge... until he signed with Di Marzio :(
-
I think he used to use cold sweats and nailbombs.
Probably still does, just doesnt tell dimarzio.
-
Yeah, he seems to play a NB / CS combo but I think he also like the CS set.
No matter what pickup endorsement he has now, he obviously will still play his BKP !
-
did he now? bah, damn corporate companies buying out our endorsees!
