Title: AC/DC at Wembley Stadium
Post by: 99_not_out on June 26, 2009, 10:49:30 AM
Anyone going tonight? I am lucky enough to have standing tickets and hence unable to concentrate at work today :-)
Should be rocking, never seen them at a venue this size before!
Hoping for a longer set list than their gigs earlier in the year ...

The Wembley show should be amazing! Unfortunately I don't have tickets for that one.
I'm seeing them at Hampden Park in Glasgow on Tuesday night instead! Can't wait! There are rumours going around here that the show is said to be AC/DC's last UK gig too.

Yes - I fear it maybe their last UK gig ... one of the reasons I have shelled out to see them twice this tour. Never wasted money with AC/DC IMHO, but perhaps particulary important this time around ...

I am going, leaving work in about 15 mins to catch the train up town.

DC and Lizzy got me into guitar driven music so am really looking forward to it.

I think its the Subways supporting - Indie Rock outfit from Welwyn Garden City (I saw them about 5 years ago in a small pub, they have clearly come a long way!). Probably won't make it there for the support though, espec. as its not Lizzy anymore.

Didn't they win a Glasto battle of the unsigned bands thing?  Think I have them on a CD I got from galsto a few years back, they're blatently the best band on it.

Yeah, it's the Subways.  And maybe - or maybe not - The Answer on first?

Why is it always so difficult to find out who the support bands are on tours?  :?

It's The Answer and The Subways supporting AC/DC in Glasgow. I checked the Hampden Park website this morning and they have the running times for the show listed. I'm assuming that they will have the same support for Wembley.

The Answer are supporting too ... I got some spam from them:

You're receiving this as you've bought tickets for the forthcoming AC/DC shows. We're truly honoured to be supporting AC/DC on the Black Ice World Tour and with just a few days to go now until the UK shows we wanted to take the opportunity to say hi and let you know a bit more about us.

Firstly, at the shows we'll be onstage at 6.15pm at Wembley and Hampden and 6.45pm at Punchestown so get down early, grab y'self a pint and come and check us out.

I guess, as doors open at 4pm, the Subways are on before The Answer ... DC are on at 8:25 apparently.

No, it's the other way round - The Answer at 6.15, the Subways at 7.15-ish, AC/DC at 8.25.

I think the doors only open so early so there's loads of time for people to arrive, find their seats and buy overpriced drinks.

Do I detect a dose of cynicism there Philly? Surely you must realise they have to make some money  :P

TBH, the way things are being with illegal downloads, live shows are the way to make money surely?

I bet loads of people buy AC/DC still though

Sometimes beer prices at gigs are taking the piss a bit
Sure we are a captive audience, but paying over £4 for a pint kind of leaves a bad taste for most people
Decent beer prices , knowing that will sll loads of it would be a welcome sight.

I noticed merchandise prices are higher as well £20+ for a t shirt

I looked at the shirts at Chickenfoot but decided against it as the band were somewhat so-so till the encore cover versions of Montrose's BAd Motor Scooter and Deep Purple's Speed king (the latter of which was truly breathtaking)
The Chickenfoot album just isn't very good by comparison  :(

I actually like it. I had set my expectations very low so perhaps that helped!

Yeah, they'll barely be scr@ping by on those £65 tickets.

Anyway, I don't buy beer or T-shirts so it's no skin off my nose.

The show was good.  Never been to Wembley Stadium before so that was an experience.

Double you tee eff?

That's insane...

My maximum is £15, no matter who it is. It's almost always a cheap cr@ppy shirt anyway.

Aren't they supposed to be _cheaper_ at gigs rather than shops?!

Quality gig, although the sound echos horrifically round Wembley - I guess the roof causes some of that. It did mean that Angus' solo at the end of let there be rock had the most amazing tone, nothing like a huge stadium for reverb ;) The podium he rises up on was right in the middle of the crowd too, with great lighting for that section.

Beer was £4, which TBH for London isn't that bad, been in pubs where its more expensive than that. I already have too many DC t-shirts, so didn't really look at them :-)

.... now all I need is that bridge Riff Raff for my SG ...

Let There Be Rock

Same problem with the Amsterdam ArenA. The echo/reverb going on there turns everything into mush. Im glad I got to see AC/DC in Ahoy Rotterdam. I'll never set foot in the Amsterdam ArenA again.

:o ????
I paid usually £4 to £6 when I was in London in October 2007, would expect to be more expensive nowadays

PS: COMPLETELY jealous of guys going on DC concert, last time they came to Brazil was January 1985 if I'm not wrong, I was 2 months old

Yeah, saw DC at the O2 in london in may - that venue has a superb PA, seen a few bands there and excellent sound every time. No sound issues there whatsoever, great presence wherever you are sat / stood. Will give Wembley a miss in the future I think! Large gigs are always better in the open air - Donnington / Glasto / Milton Keynes bowl etc have a much better sound.

£6??? christ ... most gigs / sports events in London sell beer at £3 - £3.50 (O2, Hammersmith Apollo, Lords, Oval, Fulham FC being my experience), out of the centre of town most pubs are just sub £4 a pint, but a real mixture in London - have recently paid £3.20 a pint in Piccadilly then £5.50 in the pub next door! All depends on where you go and how fashionable it is ... price is definitely used in London to attract a certain clientelle ...

I've never been to the O2, I must check it out sometime.

I must say I find the sound pretty awful at just about every gig I ever go to - partly because it's always too bloody loud (and yes, I know that means I'm too old  :| ).

£3 is plenty.

But I suppose there are plenty of people living in london with the pockets to pay such extortionate ammounts for it...

It'd drive me nuts, it's just cheap cack shitee chemical beer, too.

London is home to the Square Mile, which is by its nature holds (during working hours) some of the richest people in the UK. However the average inhabitant of London is not really any better off than the rest of the UK in my experience, especially given the cost of renting / buying a house anywhere inside the M25. I have paid £4+ a pint in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Norfolk, Yorkshire, Lancashire and the West Midlands, and less than £3 in all of the above and central London. Depends on the bar you frequent really. London has some of the richest districts in the UK, but also many of the poorest, just like any other major conurbation in the UK.

I was at the gig in Hampden in Glasgow last night, was excellent, although the sound quality was a bit funny at times. Probably the best gig i've been too.

The strangest part was when i realised my aunt and uncle were there also, and had the seats next to me, weird eh?

Was anyone from here there last night?

I was there too last night! We had standing tickets, was standing right by the runway.
Loved Angus's solo on the podium, that was excellent! The whole show was awesome, and like you, it was probably the best show that I've been to!

To be honest, I was sitting down for a lot of it.  There's not much point jumping up and down shouting "Angus, Angus" when you're 200 yards from the stage.  It's not like he's going to throw you his pick or something.
