Right, this popped into my head whilst playing my RG08LTD. I love the guitar, the looks, etc. plus the fact its limited edition. It's a keeper in other words.
The bridge is an Edge III and with all Ibanez guitars that have Edge IIIs, replacing it with an Edge Pro is always a 'Hmm.. Yes.. No?' sort of question (to be honest if it wasn't that it wouldn't be a question then..)
Now I love the guitar to the extend that I'm not going to sell it, not that everything on it is amazing that I won't change anything.
So should I or shouldn't I? Keeping in mind it'll be a gold Edge Pro so it'll be £199.99 for it. Plus I plan to change the tuners too but the Edge Pro is on my mind right now.

I'm no trem afficionado, by any means, but fwiw the proper edges (un-numbered ones, the edge and edge pro) are the dogs bollocks, where I hear along the grapevine (not spent long with them personally) that edge IIIs are shite.

the 2 and 3 are utter shite (i broke the baseplate near the trem arm on a 2 myself), the original edge and edge pro are the trems to put on your ibbies. it's no question. people that favour the 2 and 3 havent got a $%&#ing clue about trems and shunt floyds on the basis, that the copied ones arent any good. so, edge II and III = cr@p and original edge & edge pro = win

is it a direct swap, though? that's going to be the most important/annoying thing. If it's not, and you have to do routing anyway (or get someone else to do routing), you could go with a gotoh floyd (assuming it fits) which'd save you quite a bit of money on the actual trem.

pretty much +1 on that, just I'd add that I've spent a lot of time with the lo-trs, which is the precursor of the edge III and edge pro II, and it's total cr@p, and I see no reason why the new, er, "cost-effective" Ibanez trems would be any different. also add the lo-pro edge to the list of good ibanez trems.

Yes, the points all meet up and you just pop it in.

The original Edge was, well, the original. The one before the Edge Pro. It's featured on all the older models, i.e. the $%&#ng Ibanez dogs bollocks, cats pajamas guitars. But I believe there was an issue with Floyd Rose and so they had to make a whole new Edge Pro, unless that issue caused the Original, I don't remember.

Right, so I've planned for the Edge Pro and some Painkillers to test the waters and I might change the electronics but I don't know anything about them on the lines of quality and if I should bother changing them or what the effects of changing them will do..
Also replacing the jack. Defo.

oh ok, as long as you're sure it's a direct swap, go for it (as long as you like the guitar enough and are willing to sink that much money into it).
The edge isn't low profile, the edge pro (and lo-pro edge) is. That's the big difference. There are a couple of other smaller ones, too, but that's the main difference.
would be worth swapping the electronics, yeah. I'm not too well up on it as i've never actually done a swap, but i know that my guitars with quality electronics sound noticeably better- they make the tone and volume knobs usable.

what johny said .. the pro had some changes made, but it was still a quality trem .. and yes, the lo-PRO is also in that group (though i tend to forget about it) it's basically just a low profile version of the pro.
you should check out, which of these is the direct drop in replacement.. and i think the Pro and the Lo-Pro are built on the same baseplate spec. the Edge is a drop in replacement for the OFR

^ i don't think that's right. both the edge and the lo-pro edge are low profile (as far as i'm aware), while the edge isn't. And everything I've heard and seen says that the edge isn't a direct swap for an OFR, the edge is bigger.

I know the Edge Pro and the OFR fit directly with an Edge III

I haven't tried a OFR/Edge swap but I have tried a Schaller FR/Edge swap and the posts and cavity do not fit at all.
(AFAIK an OFR and Schaller are a 90% direct swap, the OFR needs a slightly bigger recess and the distance from the pivot point to the saddles is a bit different)
