I've finally decided I need a set of MQ's for the Dean Psychobilly.
From all the info I've gathered, I seem to be needing AV magnets. Seth Lover designed a special AV P90 in the '50's that was meant to sound like the DeArmond single coils, aka Dynasonics. (SD makes replicas of them)

More info about that pickup can be found here. http://www.scottymoore.net/alnicov.html
I would like my MQ to sound similar to that pickup. Can that be done?
Now for the appearance. I really like the Manhattan cover.

It looks like the top of that pickup is white while the sides are chrome. Can I get that cover in black and chrome?
Or does anyone have other ideas?

Its solid nickel silver with either nickel, gold or chrome covers. It's the way the light is falling that makes it look 2 tone.
Alnico V no problem.

Just to let you know, the Alnico pickup you have in the picture sounds nothing like a P-90. I have a '55 LP Custom that has it as a neck pickup. It is very clean and Fender sounding, posibly because the blocks you see are the magnets, so they go through the coil, as in a Fender pickup. The screws you see are to adjust the height of each magnet. A P-90 has 2 magnets under the coil and screws through them.
With a P-90 you will get more of the Eddie Cochran sound (he had a P-90 in the neck position of his Gretsch).

Can I get the normal covered MQ in black? Or I could take the Manhattan cover and paint it 2-tone myself.
I've also read on this forum that there are different winds for the MQ. Like a Mule wind, black dog wind etc. Wich wind would be best? I need something like a slightly hot '50's wind with plenty of bite and growl and still warm. I don't really need too much highs because the guitar is an all maple hollow body with loads of brightness and presence.
This is basicly the sound I'm looking for: http://www.leerocker.com/AUDIO/lee%20Rocker_evil.mp3
Thanks again for the info.

We can get the covers in black if you want, Im not sure about 2 tone.
The alternate winds were on special request, I think the Standard wind would be just what you are looking for!
Nickel is very hard to paint, so I dont think it would work doing it your self.

Great! The Manhattan covers in black would look so cool. 8)
All the guitar's hardware is black so it's the only way to go, really. If it's going to be real hard to get the manhattan covers in black, I'll settle for the normal covers in black.
Thanks.
I'll place my order soon.

One more question.
Can I order them online and put 'A5' and 'black manhattan cover' in the special instuction box or should I give you a call?
Thanks!
-
Yes, that would be fine.

Yes, that would be fine.
 What? On line or a call?
BTW, you guys at BKP are the greatest! Where else can you get a pickup made to your own specs, custom cover and all.

he's right - your customer service and care supercede any other pickup company i've ever come across by far! Its amazing how you can talk to the guys winding the pickups about how you want them to be. you wouldnt ever get to chat with seymour duncan, and get him to personally wind you a pup for less than a LOT of money.

Online would be fine Ratrod.
Customer service is the most important thing when it comes to business, I'ts a shame some companies don't realise it!
-
I've just placed the order.
I can hardly wait to get them.
Customers are the most important to any business, I learned that in school and it's very obvious whem you think about. There are plenty of companies who seem to forget this (mostly because they're focussed on personal, short term gain). Next would be your employees, again, many companies seem to forget that too.
A company will continue running without offices, computers, buildings, cars etc. A company will not run without customers and staff.

Thanks for that Ratrod, We'll get on to it asap.
Just have to get music live out of the way next weekend.
-
Great!
I sure wish I could go to music live. It would be fun to meet everyone in person.

Ratty, I was at Guitar Center yesterday and I saw the Psychobilly guitar in the flesh ... that is a cool looking axe!
It reminds me of my M1 tiger ... doesn't even appear to be made out of wood!

It's a very strange coating on that guitar. Also, the binding is fake. Mine has a little scratsch on the headstock so I can see the wood. Dispite its faults, it's a great sounding and playing guitar. The hardware is very good too.
