Title: For Ian NAD & NPD
Post by: horsehead on June 30, 2009, 11:07:47 PM
OK so Ian asked about my amp in another thread & it only seemed fair to put piccies up after he asked. After many a conversation with Martin & then with Sgmypod about my hiwatt, it came to my attention that I right royaly c--ked up. I love that clean but warm sound that Hendrix had & people like John Mayer & Matt Schofield use these days. So after a kick up the arse & convincing of the wife, I had another chat with Martin at this place about a Ceriatone 5F6-A.

BUT IN A HEAD!!!!

It has everything that I love & Martin was kind enough to make one....I ended up with this little beauty...

IT sounds like heaven to me. Tight but not compressed, open with a lovely warm after taste (bugger me this is an amp not a wine!). It takes pedals extremely well & has everything I was after. I can do Hendrix, Gilmour etc with ease (apart from the quality of playing)

Porn time (but not hardcore!)

I can't believe that more people don't get bassmans. I know the whole thing of of the JTM45 etc, but from my experience (and after speaking with Martin) the cleans aren't amazing with them & that's what I think that most people forget. Get a good clean sound & you can build upon it. It does nice break-up when pushed, but I don't want a full on crunch as I'm mostly a clean player & I can add them with my pedals (which if you want a look at they're all here (http://picasaweb.google.com/horseheadgary/GuitarsMusic#))

But I've also added a new pedal in the last couple of days...a Lovepedal Pickle Vibe & man is it lovely! It sounds like a univibe..it plays like a univibe, but without the cost! It's from there new Mini line & I love it. Gilmour, Trower & Hendrix in a tiny little box. It has the usual adjustment knob, but it has a trim pot inside that I've got to play with yet to (I think & hope) get the best out of it, but if it's half as good as it sounds now..I'll be happy!

piccie!

I've taken up your time to show how awesome my new gear is...time for you guys to agree

Looks great to me. I have a liking for Bassman type tones-I agree that with a great basic clean tone you take take it off somewhere else.

It all depends how you like your cleans.  I like mine a bit fuller and rounder, with a bit of hair on them, and that's exactly what a JTM45 delivers.  Which is why I love them  :)  Bassmans tend to be a bit cleaner and clearer, which is obviously what you love about them.

If you pardon the pun, it's horses for courses.......  (groan)

The description of the amp sounds lovely - I can't see the pics as I am at work  :x

I must admit that I do love the Mayer/Schofield clean but warm sound. I'm seriously thinking of a martamp at the moment and have a few in mind. This one is now also on the list - am I allowed to ask how much it cost as I have a budget that I need to try to stick to!

Clips are essential if you have the equipment/time!

Cheers mate

Without taking away from this thread I am now soooo undecided about what to go for! I think a trip to Manchester will help me decide!

Sounds like a plan - will PM you to sort out some dates etc. I will of course bring the Esquire, and the strat, as I would want to hear any prospective new amps with my guitars. I think I'll need to practice though as I wouldn't want to embarrass myself in such esteemed company

bah

If (when) I get another amp from Martin it's going to be a Blackface/Dumble thing... in white  :D

I really like the new logo, much better than the old one.

Yea, the thing is even though it's basically a Marshall by all accounts (cranked), the clean sound on my v6-20 is just amazing. It has all the same things happening that I liked in my old Blackface Vibrolux... probably the best thing about it. So it would prob be overkill when I could just get a Dumble in a box OD pedal.

I've thought about having the v6-20 modded, somehting like a another channel for that smooth gain... but I don't even know how possible that is.
