Title: Epiphone Sheraton II
Post by: tomjackson on July 03, 2009, 10:18:22 AM
Does anybody have any experience of this guitar?  I have a bit of GAS for it.

How does it compare to the Gibbo?  I'm hoping with pickup and electrics upgrade it will be a great guitar.
A mate of mine used to have one and I remember it being very woody and sweet sounding, just as good as a Gibson I tried recently but there's about 5 years in between playing the 2.

I was after a Peerless but they are impossible to get, Sounds Great have been waiting for stock for months.

The next step up would be the Tokai ES130 but it’s double the price

Obviously I'll get out and try one but need opinions while I'm stuck at work :?

I've played a couple and they were quite heavy/hard to play.  They didn't feel very resonant.  Could have just been a bad couple I guess, but as with all Epis I'd try before you buy...

A friend of mine has a Sheraton, I'm not impressed with it. Guitar is heavy and non-resonant, the tone is dull. Doesn't play well but finishing it OK and it looks good.

It's looking like the Tokai so far, no positive responses yet!

Tried one in Dawsons. Very heavy, bad acoustic tone, chunky sticky neck. Not recommended!

Guitar village have quite a few Peerless in stock:

Isn't there a lower spec'd Tokai- I forget the model number but around £280.00. I have absolutely no idea what it is like though.

They are pretty rough, the Epi dot is better.  The finishing around the F hole on the one I saw looked like a 5 year old had highlighted it with a black marker.  Fairly playable but I'm after something a bit better....

The Peerless semis are very nice, I tried the 3x P90 single cut model at a guitar show in March and would have bought it if I'd had a credit card on me at the time.
