Hey, Guys.
My wonderful Creative Zen Sleek MP3 player is on it's last legs. Coincidentally, my O2 contract is up for renewal in the next couple of months.
So I DEFINITELY need a new media player. My dilemma is that I have this notion of combining media player with phone, to save on pocket space.
As far as I can see, I have two main options: iPhone or Nokia N97. I currently have 19GB worth of music, so I reckon that I'd need 32GB capacity on the player to make it future proof.
I've managed to get to 38 years old without ever buying an Apple product, and I'm a little wary of the iPhone (probably because it really is the best in its class, and I'm odd like that...). But the iPhone might be the best way to go for an all in one product.
But it's expensive, and I hate spending money...
Should I try to combine phone and player? Or is that just crazy talk? There's certainly more options if I keep them separate...
Mark.

Well the iPhone you can get music and it being a phone. The new one, that is just released has video. But also think about the applications you could have, so basically you could have more than just music, video and phone in your iPhone.
That's a plus but then again, if you like listening to music and your battery dies that means your phone dies altogether.

I have the Nokia xpress music touch screen thing. I personally find that the phone slows down with functions when fully loaded. Not much of a problem as I prefer keeping phone + music seperate anyway

My sister has the iPhone. It's a very cool piece of kit but way above what I would ever need. I have a simple set up of iPod shuffle and a small Samsung mobile.
She has lots of apps on her iPhone already. I spent a while (actually, quite a while) with the spirit level app checking how lvel everything was. I think that shows a little bit of OCD!

I'm into buying things specifically for the purpose. they always work better when they are more focused on one thing because you have to make little compromises to cram in all the features.
Although saying that...the iPhone is incredible. But i still think you could get an Ipod = more capacity for your great choons, and a phone seperately because you could easily save money.
Also if anything happens to your iphone (gets nicked or broken) then you will be without a phone and a media player.
£150 can get you alot more than 32 gb of space and then you would still have change from the price of an iphone for a very nice phone!

I tried it for a while; using my phones mp3 player, because it was one less thing to carry around.
Problems
- they arent very good at it
- the battery runs down pretty much every day; you need it to be a phone and there isnt enough juice.
Get an iaudio.

They look beastly. Do you have one?

Is "beastly" a good or a bad thing, Johnny? I get confused with all this cool, young persons lingo...
They definitely look expensive...

Get yerself a Nokia 3310 (about a tenner) and a fifth generation 30GB iPod (about £50-60) :D Works for me

The iPhone looks very cool and the price is much more reasonable these days. But if you use your tunes a lot then the battery thing could be an issue.
iPods are restrictive in how they let you manage your music, but if you are happy towork within the constraints they are a good unit.
I'd go with separates.
Oh and the Sony walkman phones are rubbish, Sue has one and hates it.

I do, and with some sennheiser CX95s they sound great and do everything you want a media player to do.

my sony phone is a couple of years old but you can't list things by track which is annoying!!! gotta add the album songs in reverse and then sort by date to get track order!!! :(

Apparently the sound quality on the Sony's is poor too. That I find rather stupid, if you are going to produce a walkman phone then the sound HAS to be good.
