Title: Guitar building resources?
Post by: mikey5 on July 07, 2009, 06:38:56 PM
Ok I have a couple of books that talk about guitar building. I was wondering do any of you guys have a favorite website that really helps you in building or a forum for luthiers? Also I would like to buy some templates anyone know of sites with this sort of useful stuff?
Thanks

www.projectguitar.com is one of my usual hangouts.   Good for begineers.

www.mimf.com is good but more of a professional type place.  Both have good resources for reading.

those are good - plus i hang out at a very helpful UK forum with a sexy moderator
http://simnettguitars.co.uk/forum/

i learnt a lot from MIMF when i was starting because its a friendly place.  PG is more friendly than it used to be but they used to have a habit of flaming the newbies who didnt use the search function properly (which never works anyway)

the best resource of templates is this aptly named site:
http://www.guitarbuildingtemplates.com/

but all of the forums above have info on making your own and PG has some downloadable ones you can print out if you donate to the forum

www.tdpri.com
Amazing from scratch builds.
Lots of real cool ideas for jigs, techniques.

Here's an unbelievable build documented from the beginning:
