Title: What a difference a knob makes
Post by: FELINEGUITARS on July 08, 2009, 05:44:50 PM
Well - 4 of them actually

Many of you will remember the Feline Lion Cub Guitar (and some of you will have played it too)

I originally fitted the ivoroid knobs and liked how they kind of went with the binding
But after listening to a few comments I decided to give the vintage amber ones a go
And the results are dead sexy:

Looks better I think. Have you changed the pickups to?

I'm still considering getting me this beast, think I'd prefer it with a slightly thinner body though, isn't this a weighty guitar?

Yes it clocks in at over 9LBs - its a solid piece of Brazillian Mahogany
We can make one for you lighter /thinner
Prices will be from £1600 for a custom built

Yes - have been fiddling around with it somewhat
The pots are 300k ones now  as the guitar was very bright before
Bridge p-up is A5 mule and the neck is a SD Jazz

We tried many pickups to find what would sing the best in her and judged with our ears rather than our eyes
This combo sounds great - Afghan Dave was playing away on it yesterday and the sounds were fab

I'm an unashamed 80s super-strat guy so this really isn't up my alley but..... I LOVE THE TONE!!

It sounded wonderful when I played it yesterday.

A handsome looking guitar and I too prefer the new knobs.

I think it looks 'sexier' because it looks more like a typical Les Paul.

Nevertheless it certainly, imo, feels better than a Les Paul.

The vintage knobs disappear. Not enough contrast for my taste. But I'd still take that guitar!

+1

I prefer the ivoroid knobs, I like a bit of contrast too.

I think I would've been lured by this guitar long ago if it wasn't for the weight.  A (lightweight) hybrid of this one and the Emerald Lion would be just perfect.

I prefer the vintage style knobs. It's easier on the eye.

I prefer the amber, but the others do make for a striking look.

But I still prefer my Tabby  :P :D

I like the look of both, would probably prefer the Ivoroid though.

That does look like a fine LP though! I'll bet it sounds great too.

I think the amber ones do make it look more like a traditional LP, but the White ones do look good for a contrast and also make it look more modern/unique.

Dont know which i'd prefer if it were mine though!

Maybe a mixture of both! Also, welcome to the forum!
