That's right. Simple topic. I get bored a lot seeing as its the summer holidays and I've been on holiday. So I really don't have anything to do. So really..
Suggestions? And I don't mean stupidly crazy suggestions. I suppose I'll take into consideration everything but yeah.. seriously, even the most menial things I'll try cause it's something rather than nothing. Inside or outside, i.e. walk.
Stupid thread but I have nothing else to do funnily enough.
-
do you want to kill time or do something constructive? Either is valid, you're on holiday for a break. :)

Both, just like.. ANYTHING! You should know, Belfast is so.. dull. To me, unless there's some excitement hiding around the corner or something.
-
if you like computer strategy games, just buy something like civilization and that'll be your problem solved.
I'm not really sure what to do in belfast... I only really lived there when i was at uni so didn't have all that much time to kill, just the odd evening (so cinema, more or less  ).
practice guitar more. :D

Get some friends with acoustic guitars and bongos, and see if you can hitch your way to Paris and back.
Play classic old skool video games you've never played before or haven't played for ages (I've just been playing Super Metroid again, and I'm sure it's one of my favourite games of all time - when I was younger I just didn't "get it").
Learn a new instrument.
Read a book. There's loads of them out there!
Watch a trilogy of films all in a day.
Paint a picture, write a poem, make a sculpture.
Try a new sport, join a team or club.
Write and record a song.
Focus all attention on one specific lady.
Mow the grass (surprise your parents!).
Make cookies/flapjacks/cake.
Get a job! (maybe even some charity work?)
Sit in the park feeding pebbles to children.
-
Get an Xbox.
Cycling is great, not just riding a-b, but trails or BMXing is pretty fun.
I get the same problem, I usually end up going between Xbox and guitar.
Make some tea.
Movies are good, like horror movies or westerns.
-
learn to sweep pick ;)
-
working in a school and getting great holidays is what finally allowed me the time to start building guitars!
-

This is what I was going to suggest! Trails are so fun even if they're small.
What I did last night was alright, get a load of friends and go sit in a field with a bbq, drink and a portable loudspeaker thing. It'd be better if I could've drank though, near the end of the night everyone was lying there monged out and I was the only sober one  :(
I'm in a similar situation Jonny so I may try things that have been suggested here as well :) Just read some and I wouldnt recommend watching the LOTR (extended edition) trilogy all in one day. Me and my mates did it for some reason, it was the worst 12 hours of my life

Ok, for a constructive approach learn to do something you are bad at. I decided to learn guitar (aged 34) when I realised that I have no creative skills at all, none whatsoever, the most complementary thing my music teacher ever said to me was 'Oh dear' (and he wasn't chatting me up). Anything you think you'd like to have a crack at, but think you have no talent for.
For time wasting, computer games are the best, something like Civilisation is good, or my personal favourite is MMORPG's, World of warcraft or Everquest 2. I don't have time for these anymore, but they can make whole days disappear :)
Walking and listen to an audio book is a nice way to zone out for a bit too.
Enjoy yourself though!
We could use a New World Order if you think you have the time.... :D

Whatever you do: not games! Ok for a bit but believe me, spend a week of holiday playing one and you feel like you just cut a week out of your life at the end!
An hour or two here and there, but dont go nuts!
Write songs, learn new techniques, if you dont have a band form one, get on the train to wherever, sports, random pseudo-dangerous things (bungie jumping, hang gliding, what have you), I dont know - even belfast is pretty big, there'll be plenty to do if you look.
-
Get a Korg Nano Pad and ezdrummer!

i'd feel the same about the pseudo-dangerous stuff. ;) how much of a pratt would you feel if you got seriously hurt (even worse, with something irreversible)? I mean, i realise it's unlikely, but it does happen occasionally. That's going to waste a lot more of your life than a week on a computer game. :)

Big girls blouse :p
I broke my ankle a while back. Got some good reading and playing in; I regret nothing.
Permanent? I still have the plate and screws, does that count

If you get badly hurt, you sue them for all they've got, and hey presto, NGD!

Personally I want to die peacfully in my sleep, aged 110, having lived a healthy life, and either owning or owing a lot of money :) (And guitars)
No matter what the age one should always have more guitars than years
But to take up MDV's point, yes games will just suck a hole right out of your life, but they are fun too.

I don't have any useful suggestions, but I know what you mean about being bored. I've been going through a phase where I can't be bothered to do anything at weekends. I do things I have to do - get the shopping, run the washing machine, but other than that I'm just reading, watching DVDs or sitting right here... nothing useful. They're basically just two days of not having to go to work.
The fact it's summer doesn't help - I view it as three months to be survived before the weather gets more civilised, the days get shorter and people stop hanging around outside being drunk and/or annoyingly cheerful.
Anyway, I have to start training for another 10k this week - if I can be bothered   - so maybe that'll snap me out of it. Having a target/deadline helps.
(I'm a miserable $%er, aren't I? )
-
I hate summer weather as well, philly. Its ok today, but I generally cant wait to get back to temperate weather.

Relearn a song in a different position or reharmonize it into a different key signature.
-
Go an try some voluntary work ?

+1
regarding the weather... i spend the whole time wishing the weather were better, then when it gets better i remember i can't handle the heat.

Hah! +1, but I don't complain about the heat, I'm happier hot than cold generally.

haha I used to be like that but since I started doing things outside I love the hot weather! So long as its not sticky and humid I'm ok.
-
Get Fallout 3, that should more or less take up your life for the next few weeks...
-

i think i'd rather be too cold than too hot, but obviously i'd prefer to be just right :D

that's what i mean, unfortunately. it's rarely hot without the humidity and mugginess here... :(

Me too. At least you can regulate your heat a little better if it's cold - there's no limit to the number of layers you can put on!
-
yeah, exactly. plus if i'm too warm it can make me feel sick, too cold and i just feel, well, too cold.
-

DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS MAN!
What he says is true, but you shouldnt do it!
All that will happen is you'll look back on the 200 hours you spent playing it, broken only by sleep, and think "How good would I be now if I spent that time on guitar?".
-
at least the single player games I play tend to last around 8 or 10 hours, although Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead did suck a lot of hours out of my life over the past few weeks
at the moment I'm working my way through Bioshock, by which I mean I played it once and keep getting distracted by guitar related stuff

i know i wouldn't spend it on guitar, anyway. plus i actually get worse if i play too much.

Learn a skill that you wouldn't get a chance to at any other time
First aid
Learn a language (or start to)
Learn to cook or cook in a different style
Read a great book
Do a crossword a day
Just get good at something that later in life you will be glad you did
Or think up a better caption for my next caption contest
-
I did buy Prototype a few weeks ago, but I completed that, lol..
I still have to drive, so I suppose I should give that a shot. Great suggestions by the way :)
-
When I got that bored I did a few Su Doku's a day, I quite miss it as it improved my numbers skills
-
Get a Job, Fair enough you'll still be bored, but then you'll have loads of money to buy gear at the end of it! :D
Failing that, if you've got a DAW / recording stuff then just write and record loads!
-
you could acquire 25 hours worth of social engineering material, no idea when I'm going to watch any of it, probably 90% rubbish created by marketers to make a bit of cash
