Title: Difference between a few pups?
Post by: thomasterrible on July 10, 2009, 11:31:38 PM
I sent an email to Tim telling him I wanted a high output pup that was great for pinch harmonics and hard, metal style playing, he recommended the Miracle Man for my new BC Rich Draco.

There are a few others that I am interested in but cant find to listen to in person over here in the US

War Pigs

Nail Bomb

Painkiller

Can someone give me an idea of the difference between these three, and how they compare to the Miracle Man I have on order?  I expect I will like the pickup and want to install another in a different guitar, just need to figure out which since they are not the cheapest pups on the market and I am not rolling in money.

Thanks in advance

Miracle man Has A soft mid with screaming highs, tight lows and a good amount of clarity, It has a nice grind to it.
Painkiller Has more of a midhump with alot of clarity tighter then the miracle man They sit very well in a mix I mean guitar is a mid instrument after all!
Both of the above are capable of good cleans but some consider them sterile if your not used to ceramic magnets.
Nailbomb has a high mid hump as well but wont be as tight as a painkiller due to the Alinco Magnet compared to the Ceramic magnet in the above 2. Nailbombs also have sweeter highs then the above 2 making it one of the best lead pickups ive heard, For Cleans you might prefer these as well due to the alnico magnet.

Cant comment on war pigs.
Hope this helps

Could you state the specs of your BC rich Woods andETC.

Warpigs are very thick, they have quite a roar, but being AV, they're certainly darker than the MM. They're quite clear (nothing floppy about them), but the MM will most likely be tighter.

Ah, check the players section, you might be able to find not only the sound clips of the pickups you're interested in, but in guitars whose tonal specifications match yours as well.

Guitars have tonal specifications now????

Well, that makes life easier!

I meant tonal qualities.

I like Tims choice : Miracle Man

Also worth considering is the Ceramic Warpig - same warpig wind but swap the A5 for a ceramic magnet
Tightens the bottom end and adds more sizzle at the top
