Hey all,
Long story short, my custom guitar has been put on hold indefinitely (with my precious bkp's) and my only other guitar has pretty much died. Just to hold out for 3 months I'm getting a cheapo ibanez, and maybe will upgrade it with some relatively cheap pickups.
I'm pretty much set on the Seymour Duncan SPH90-1n Phat Cat Guitar Pickup for the neck but I need a decent pup for the bridge that's thunderous in the bass as most of my favorite things to jam to are in drop-d.
Any cheap dimarzios or seymour duncans come to mind?

I've got a Kent Armstrong 'Sky' pickup knocking about that you can have for £15 delivered? It's a JB style Hot PAF thing, which should work well? It was in a Ibanez RG I had for a little while.
PM me if you want it!

Out of curiosity, if it's only a stop gap solution why bother upgrading the pickups anyway? I doubt it would make a huge difference swapping a cheap pickup with another cheap one.
-
yeah, stick with what it has and save up for something better!!

+1

Kent armstrong are better than duncan and dimarzio, IMO, and cheaper.
-
GFS pickups are pretty good for the money.
They're like the Danelectro of pickups.
-
Apparently Tonerider and Irongear are both pretty good, and cheap.
But you're in the US aren't you? GFS might be the best bet.
-
Yeah, I've heard good things about GFS at US prices.
-
Get yourself a Pacifica 112 and leave the pickups! Great guitar, and you'll still come back to it even when you've upgraded. I promise.
-
theirs nothing cheap about a SD Phat Cat either...

if you're in the US, I've heard good things about high order and bg pickups, both of which are pretty cheap and handwound, but I haven't tried either, I'm afraid. :)
