Title: small powered pedal boards
Post by: Dmoney on July 14, 2009, 01:17:53 AM
anyone use smaller powered pedal boards for something like a wah and 3 or 4 boss sized FX.

i always have bad luck with noise when powering FX from mains outlets. but id like to move to a powered pedal board as long as the power is hum free-ish or whatever.#

any ideas?

Sounds like you want the power outlet to be built-in on the pedalboard. That was one option for me too, when I was building my board. However, they were not easy to come by here and I ended up ordering a separate board and a separate power, namely the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power II Plus. Isolated outputs and the works, I have only good things to say about it. Noiseless and can give power to almost any pedal.

If you combine that with something like a T-Rex ToneTrunk (http://www.t-rex-engineering.com/Default.aspx?ID=95 (http://www.t-rex-engineering.com/Default.aspx?ID=95)), you can do whatever you like.

And then the boards with built-in power one example: http://www.furmansound.com/product.php?id=SPB-8 (http://www.furmansound.com/product.php?id=SPB-8)
Whatever you end up buying, I strongly recommend that you pay attention if the power outlets are isolated. Ground loops are not nice, and I believe that they occur much more easier if you combine pre-amp effects and effects in the loop from the same power. Unless the outputs are isolated of course. But I have a gut feeling that you're not gonna  bother with fx loop (which I have my delay on), so isolated outputs might not be a definitive requirement.

My 0.02 euros.

Make sure you get yourself a regulated Power Supply.

I use one of these from Maplin Electronics, more than enough to power most pedals and it doesn't hum

Same, i use the JSF one too. Reliable and pretty small, no problems running all of my home made pedals.
