Title: Amps sims - Plug-ins
Post by: Lew on July 18, 2009, 04:34:19 PM
At the mo I'm using Guitar Rig 3(ok for high-gain), Waves GTR3(ok for cleans), Amplitube(shite), Revalver(shite), Eleven(shite). I've just downloaded Studio Devils Brit pack.

Anyone know of any great amp sim plug ins that I don't but should?

What are you trying to achieve? If it's for recording then you could try something like the Vox amplug and use the headphone out to record.

Tried Amplitube 2? It takes ages to tweak but when you get it right you can get some ok tones.

Sorry I meant Amplitube2 not Amplitube, doh!

ailean - just looking for more amp sim plug-ins that I may find usefull. I use Protools 8 for recording and use plug-ins for demos and guide tracks :)

You don't like Amplitube 2? That's interesting! I've always found it to be the best by FAR! I hate Guitar Rig 3 aswell :?

Wasn't that keen on it :s the thing with Guitar Rig is if your patient you can get some decent high gain tones on it and the same with cleans on waves gtr3 imo.

I liked revalver 3 best for metal, I thought it was better than amplitube and I thought both were better than guitar rig

revalver 3 works best with a good cab impulse

Revalver 3 :s ... maybe I should give it another go?

I have the Sansamps too (they came with my Protools 8 bundle as well as DigiDesigns Eleven), not impressed :/

I'm starting to think an iso cab and a couple of 57s at home is gonna be the only option... just so much damn money.

With all the money you have spent on software so far, you could have bought an Axe FX :O)

Well it's a good job you considered TRIALS and DEMOS before you jumped to that conclusion isn't it?

http://www.softube.se/ seems really good too!

ye but how much money could you spend on them trying to find the best one, and it saves money for BKPs, which keeps the money in this country, and so keeps jobs here and boosts the economy, which in turn increases your quality of life ;)

there is probably a reverse argument about inflation in there somewhere to rationalise but I'm no hedge fund manager

Whens the Axe pc vst sim thing coming out?

Are the horrible rumours that you need an axe-fx as a dongle true?

Whats the $%&#ing point in that (if its true) - you'd already have an axe fx

oh I didn't realize it was coming into fruition, I thought it was just an idle threat. That would indeed rock... but yea a Dongle would suck - especially if it was an Axefx

I really need to try axe FX, are they deemed to be 'the best' amp sim?

I've heard so much about guitar rig, amplitube and all the others i dunno which is best!

Can anyone enlighten me?  :?

Give em a whirl, they all have free trials and demos  8)

None of them sound anywhere near as good as a mic'd amp IMO but ideal for getting ideas down and late night playing  :D

The difference is painfully obvious if you mic real amps and modellers.

I had a version of an old song that was all amps. Recorded a solo for it. Switched to modellers to do more work on it for consistency (not an optimal recording envoronment - mics got bumped often, tones changed from bar to bar). The solo sat ok in the mix. Copied it to the new modeller version because that section wa still the same structure - it didnt work because it sounded FAR too good, too alive, too dynamic, too full and detailed a sound. Tried it with the modeller; sounded the usual dull fizzy and lifeless by comparison, hated it, had to scr@p it. This is one of many things that have let me to nearly completely abandon modellers (and I only say nearly in case I find a use for them later). Horrible things compared to a cooking amp and excursing speaker with a well placed mic or two.
