Popped into Vodafone yesterday while shopping to check out a possible upgrade to a Blackberry, but they'd just had delivery of a bunch of Nokia N97s. As you can't get the iPhone on Nokia, and I'm not a big fan of Apple's world domination, I fell for it.
I'm supposed to be working but I've spent the day messing about with Facebook widgets and setting up email. And ordering a case, and some screen protectors, and a car charger.......
I love gadgets :D

Awesome. I imagine you'll get a lot of use out of that.
I had their other touch-screen, the 5800 for a couple of days, but it was so shiny and delicate feeling so I took it back and got a 3310 because it seemed more 'me'. :)

Can you still get the 3310? That's my phone, I've had it for years! :)
I like some gadgets, but mobile phones aren't among them. I hate the bloody things.
-
I've still got a 3410 thats in need of a new fascia and charger. I might start using it again, all I use my slightly flashier 5300 for is texting and ringing anyway.
-
I've been waiting for a reasonably sized and priced full-on internet phone to be available for a few years. I've always wanted to have the world in my pocket, as it were!
The iPhone pretty much did it, but I must admit I like the separate QWERTY keyboard of the N97 better.

Indeed. i can't get on with keyboards lacking in buttons!
-
iPhones are very awkward to type on imo. I think they're hugely overrated bollocks tbh! This nokia equivalent seems way better.
-
Well, we'll see how it goes. The Apple brand has really sucked in a lot of people, and there are some really good apps for the iPhone.
I like to be a little different though, and the iPhone is only on O2 and more expensive.

But if you can geniunely say you use it for booking gigs, you can get it on a business tarif
-
Ha ha - nice one!
-
I'm tempted by the N97 - I just remember the N95 coming out, and the dreadful battery life!
Played with the N97, and it's dead cool. I too am irrationally adversed to Apple...

+1
It's like they've taken something really good (being able to phone if your car breaks down, for example), and made it into something really cr@p and annoying. Like big brother on TV.
-
all the iphones sins can be forgiven for the alan partridge in your pocket app!
-
I want the Sony Ericsson C905 phone. It's beastily, I love my current 902 but I need an upgrade and its not until next year! Curses!
-
I still have the same sony w810i I've had for years, does everything I need
I love how lots of people have to have the newest, best phone possible because it gives them social proof or whatever, good old marketing and peer pressure
anyone who judges me purely by the phone I have needs to get a life :)
I do quite like the google phone, nice interface, shame about the camera, do symbian based phones have an app store?
-
Yep, there's Vodafone's Ovi Store. Not up to the level of Apple, and a bit naff to be honest. Early dasy I suppose.

Yes, that's exactly the reason I buy stuff. Marketing and peer pressure  ;)

Sheesh..that's some job you've got there Dave.....any vacancies coming up? :D
Although I'm often called Inspector Gadget I consider mobiles phones to be merely a very useful comm device. Putting on my Victor Mildrew hat ... I do get p****d off when people insist on having long loud conversations in restaurants, public places etc. - I use the word 'conversation' in it's loosest meaning, in most cases banal chit-chat would be more appropriate. There was even a guy in a toilet cubicle at the cinema a few weeks ago chatting away whilst I was using the urinal - amazing, judging by the smell he was making I would have thought the last thing he would want to do is draw attention to himself. :)

I do pretty much everything EXCEPT talk on my phones

I text a little so I'd be perfectly fine with 0 minutes, unlimited messages and £1 per month internet, lol..
An awesome phone which I still like was The Matrix phone but the retail one, not the ACTUAL one. I'd love one, lol..

My plan gives me 300 free minutes/text per month (plus another 300 for same network) - I've never ever had less than 260 minutes/texts left at the end of the month. The only 'gadget' aspect of a mobile phone which would interest me would be a REALLY good built in camera to use when I'm not carrying my digital camera. Apart from that I just want a reliable phone with good coverage and battery life.

Hence why I want the C905, it's got an amazing camera (for a mobile phone) and I already love the previous model to it.

OK Dave - you convinced me I need a new mobile phone so I got a fantastic deal at Trotter International Traders (TITs).....................
Great deal - you get a free Doberman Pinscher with it and 6 month holiday in Afghanistan.
-
Looks great?
Del always does a good deal ;)

Nobody else here got a Google phone?
I've found my G1 to be better than anything made by Nokia (despise the N series, sorry Dave!)

When I was upgrading my current contract a few months ago I looked at the Google phone but it is only available on T-Mobile and they don't have very good coverage for my area.
I upgraded to a BlackBerry Bold which I find I'm using more and more, I love it!
-
Be careful with a blackberry, I had a nightmare of a time trying to get the numbers off of my Brother's after it buggered up, and now another of my workmates ones has $%ed up.
And they are both going back to Nokia ;)
-
Well I haven't had any problems so far, fingers crossed it stays that way. ;)
-
Recently got a BlackBerry Storm. I love, that it's basically a portable computer with EVERYTHING. .. though, hell if i lose it.

used to know someone with one, I rather like it, needs a camera flash but I like the interface, and the menu button that I think of as a right click, so you don't have to shove a load of controls on the screen like maybe on an iphone
I've not played with the iphone much but I do wonder how the app stores compare, lots of free goodies on the google one
