after messing around soldering cheap thin wires, and surface mount devices in my work.. this stuff is an absolute joy to work with! really easy to make everything neat and tidy. easy to solder, stiff and easy to route, push the cloth covering easily in each direction.. my days it must have been great to work with it all the time in old times!
just wanted to share my feelings with the BKP community :)

Ha ha - I agree! It's great stuff!
-
correct
I use it 90% of the times for my wirings
-
It's the only wire to work with! :)

The irony is, I thought it was the biggest pain to work woth until I figured out the "pushback" bit.
durrr...

I have to confess, I still haven't figured that out....
I try to cut it - which never gets through all the fibres - and it goes all tatty and unravelled at the ends.
If you "push it back" doesn't it just slide back into place again?
-
well for a start you need to cut it with something sharper... but not all cloth covered wires are created equal
i had some yellow and black stuff from axesrus that frayed as soon as it was cut and ended up looking a little messy. The proper stuff doesnt fray much at all. it does slide back into place a bit after pushing back, but not too much.

Geeks. :p

I buy the Stewart MacDonald's stuff and it is great. It comes in 3 colours (black, white and yellow) and so is good for keeping wires easily recognisable. I also use their screened wire too.
-
I have some Fralin wire but it's non-waxed.
I've also got some vintage Belden stuff that looks like cloth covered wire (cuz it is) but has a plastic insulation layer between the wire and the cloth. Great quality but really tough to strip.

I ordered cloth-covered wire from a couple of places and wasn't impressed with it. Also it's damn expensive - I'd rather buy PTFC wire if I'm gonna spend the extra.
-
I am trying to find cloth-covered wire in green and orange (often seen in late 1960's Fenders; apparently they were using wire left over from the amplifier division).

The Mojotone wire is pretty close. By the way I would call it yellow rather than orange....
I tend now to only use the cloth covered wire for repairs on vintage amps.
As stated about it's quite expensive. Also, I now try to avoid using solid core wire

Yeah I soldered some of the Fralin cloth clovered wire the other day. Man it was a breeze.

Thanks! I am seriously GASsing for one of their ampli-kits. I suppose I could justify it if I really need to order some wire (to save on shipping costs).
