I'm planning on replacing the TOM bridge on my riff raff equipped Gibson SG Standard with a callaham model

what i need to know is do i need the ABR-1 style posts or the Nashville conversion posts?

and can any of you knowledgeable chaps point me in the direction of a good aluminium tailpiece?

 Thanks  :D

A Gotoh tailpiece will do you well  ;)

I think you'll want a Nashville conversion post as your guitar will have a Nashville bridge as stock.

You need to look at the way the bridge is attached to the body.  The ABR-1 posts are made of threaded rod, screwed straight into the wood of the body:

The Nashville bridge is a bit wider (from front to back) and doesn't have a wire holding down the saddles.   The posts screw into metal bushings pressed into the body:

On a 2006 SG Standard I think it'll probably be a Nashville bridge.

For an aluminium tailpiece, you can't go wrong with Gotoh:

That's a nickel one, but you can also get them in chrome and other finishes, there are usually some on eBay (at cheaper prices too).  If you want a locking version, there's TonePros, but they're modified Gotoh parts anyway:

You're better off with a Nashville style bridge.

Every ABR-1 bridge will start to rattle sooner or later.

Thanks for all the info gents.

I installed a Callaham bridge into my Strat last year and the improvement in tone was considerable, so hopefully the combination of the ABR-1 and aluminium tail piece will have a similarly positive effect on the SG.

Now to look into some caps.  :)
