Title: Eminence Cannabis Rex
Post by: tomjackson on July 28, 2009, 09:19:44 PM
Just got an Eminence C Rex for £50 delivered to replace a Celestion Seventy 80.

This is a miles better speaker, how do Eminence do it when they are made in the US for pretty much the same price?

The C Rex, is really sweet and round sounding, my Tele bridge pickup now screams without inflicting pain, it is clear, articilate, composed at high volumes and not even broken in yet.

It's not gritty and aggressive like a british style speaker, but for a really sweet and composed american sound, it's great.  I think it would sound excellent in a deluxe reverb.  Good for Jazz, cleaner blues styles, funk etc but also good for rock as long as you don't wand the grit from you speaker.

Well worth a look.  I'm looking at the Red Fang and Wizard next, just becasue they are so much better value than their celestion equivalents.

i've been looking at eminence too, recently, though haven't got round to ordering one yet. Though in my defence, for once, I have been struggling to find anywhere with the one i want in stock.

What amp did you put it in? I seem to think you are a Laney user, VC30 or Lionheart...

I love mine as well. It also works great with a biit more aggressive speakers in a larger cabinet.

Well i have a Rivera Clubster on long term loan at the moment so it has gone into that, the clean channel is pertty bright in a deluxe reverb kind of way so the C rex tames it a little.  I may try it with the VC30 soon also, I'm sure it would sound ace in there too

16 ohm texas heat, though to be honest I think even if i did find one i'd hang off for a while, as i have a couple of amps on the horizon that i might be thinking of, and if i do go for them, that might change my choice of speaker, kind of thing.

I think tube town has them in stock, but they're pretty dear... problem is the 16 ohm version, blue aran has the 8 ohm one for around £40 (though their postage charge to NI is taking the piss), while the 16 ohm one is something like £60 on tubetown. Oh yeah, and postage from germany to northern ireland is cheaper than postage from england to northern ireland.
