Title: New pot fail
Post by: syr2012 on July 31, 2009, 03:24:02 AM
I recently bought a new volume pot (CTS) and a proper switch for coil splitting. However, once I installed the goods, the switch doesn't switch, and the volume doesn't go down to zero. Ever. Any ideas?

Disconnect everything and put your meter on the switch, and the pot to test. Very unusual that both components would be bad. May I suggest the possibility of a wiring problem?

Yeah no way the switch and pot are bad. You wired something wrong.

if it was just one component then fair enough... but you would have to be really unlucky to get two at once

Yeah, turns out I soldered the ground for the pot incorrectly and then it came undone. I also soldered the ground to the wrong place on the switch. Extra smooth on my part. What's even better is that I bought a linear pot instead of an audio pot, so I get to do the whole thing all over again.
