Yesterday we had a gig here on a rock festival around Liege, and I wanted to play it with the McCarty with Rebel Yells, which I normally use with this band.
As I was just tuning my backup guitar (Edwards LP with VHIIs) I had to walk to the FOH mixer desk to fix the camcorder for recording the gig, I still had the Edwards on me with the wireless, then while I was still down there, the intro sequence started, and I though "WTF%&/", ran back on stage and ended up doing the whole gig with the Edwards.
It was awesome, it cut through like the infamous "hot knife through butter", and I realised that I feel much more at home with a LP scale and all - had really fun playing.
Some guy came to me after the gig and was asking me a hole in my stomach about what is that guitar and the rig, as he thought the sound was truly badass. I felt goooood! :O)
Hmm, funny how coincidences like this can sometimes lead to good conclusions.

Cool :) It's nice to hear stories like that.
I think sometimes just having a change is fun.
-
That sounds hilarious, I can just imagine you walking, the sound starting and you having to run back, lol
Glad to hear the Edwards does well for metal with VHIIs
-
That is amusing. I'm not sure how I'd get on without my No 1 guitar that I've been playing for years. btw, " hole in my stomach" is not an expression I have heard before. Curious. I think we should be told.

It's German: "Ein Loch in den Bauch fragen" is if someone is asking you too many questions :O)

Yeah it adds more of an 80s flavour to the tone, which I like and it blends well as the other guitarist has a very lowend heavy tone.
I just cut some vids and although the sound quality is really sub par, you can hear it cut through very well (I'm the guy on the right). Beware that I am running just one side of my poweramp, so 50W, whereas the other guy plays a 120W head:
1. Here you can very well hear my small lead part at 3:04, whereas Bernie's Solo at 2.48 gets lost a bit (he plays a stock Ibanez)

2. Here it's mainly the intro arpeggio of mine at 0:15 that is distinguishable

3. Here you can check the small arpeggio starting with Bernie at 0:58 and me coming in at 1:04. VHIIs are giving those important upper mids. Also at 3:11 I play an octave chord part that cuts through very nicely, although there's tons of delay in it.

Will see if I can post some more later.

if in the future when you become famous, this story will be the stuff of legends.. like how iommi used a strat before it broke recording the first album.

Thanks dude, but I fear my fame will remain limited to some gear heads and facebook friends - no illusions here :(

Gotta say mate, not only does your rig sound absolutely awesome, but I love the music you guys play too, great stuff! :D

Thanks dude, that's very kind.
I like it too but have heard it so often now, it's hard to judge if it does something to a first time listener. Good to hear some folks like the stuff!

Your guitar does cut through really well on those clips! Presumably you didn't have time to mess with amp settings - just wondering, would you have changed them if you planned to use the Edwards?

Wow - I wasn't expecting that much of a difference! Not really my kind of music but great stuff and well played.
-
Sorry, what?
Thats extremely unexpected:
You played a metal gig?

I did push down presence 1/10 and resonance up 1-2/10 in between a keyboard bridge, as it was almost too much on the ears, after it was GREAT :O)

Cool!

That's certainly a respectable height for your Edwards, but the Ibby guy has it up by his nipples!!! :)
Glad to hear it went well!

Luckily he didn't play a Tele :O)
As for the height, I am always on the longest setting on all my straps, and guitars are hanging lower, the more I lose weight - ever seen BB King with his Lucille? :O)

3rd pic explains it all - your other guitarist is asleep!
Metal Hunter is Metal.

Ok Ok I get it, I am not metal, I am just in midlife crisis and try to be cool, failing at it ... obviously.
But hey, at least at that Festival in St. Georges-Sur-Meuse we were the most Metal band of all 8)
-
I didnt say you arent metal. You just normally arent. The sudden metalisation is....surprising.

Iceman, Explorer or V are up high on the list!! Or maybe I'll do some Tele modding for the brootalz!!
Pickups for Bernie, yeah, that comes next, he wants new pickups for his 7 string, I'll fix him with some BKPs!

I'm totally GASing a Ken Lawrence Explorer (of course NOT built by himself, no money to pay it)
