Title: VHII Bridge - Whole Lotta Delay Effects
Post by: Bainzy on October 31, 2005, 08:32:59 PM
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guitar: My Custom Strat (ash body, ebony/maple neck)

Amp: Marshall 1959SLP RI (modded by me)
Marshall 1960A cab

Mic: Shure SM57 (40 degree angle off center, bottom right speaker, approx 3 inch away from grille)

Clip is at bedroom volume levels, the amp has the volume switch to 60% mode.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thought I'd do a clip that's a bit unusual, it's of the bridge VHII with some sounds of it going through the analog delay after the preamp of the Marshall. If you max out the controls on the delay, it goes into self oscillation, which you hear in the clip. The volume level of the self oscillation can be adjusted too so it can be a background noise if you want  :? .

I had some other riffage going in this clip but I've had to take most of the riffs out as I stupidly forgot to set up the recording gear to avoid digital clipping, so the riffs ended up having this boomy muffled bass to them and a bit distorted digitally. I didn't notice till after I uploaded it, as I didn't listen to the recording while I was playing as I was too busy messing with the delay!

Pretty cool. I always use my Danelectro Shift Daddy for that stuff. Does all the helicopters and pitch bending like in 'Cochise' and 'Whole Lotta Love' as well as a cool slap echo.

Yeh I particuarly like this delay not only as it does those things, but it also sounds 'warm', it rolls off a bit of treble with each repeat and sounds really nice.

Nice tone! Which delay is that?

Someone must want to give me their VHII's in exchange for my Mules! Come on!

Ill sell you my VHIIs for a pack of those magic beans.

Of course, I am only joking...

You're gonna love your VHIIs when you get them Tom....what was it that swung you over? You seemed interested when I was posting some demos, but they were a bit too high gain...what swung you?

After hearing Bainzys other clips of it through a proper valve amp, I was very interested. I then went to Music Live and played some and they sounded so nice. Really open sounding, a touch "grittier" than my Mules and a bit brighter I guess. Dont get me wrong, Mules are still great, VHII just sound more what I'm after  :D

yeah, thats cool. I liked them before - when I had the Line 6 - but through the JCM they are really kicking ass, particularly with a nice fuzz. I really want to record some demos again with the new set up, but i cant til I get the hotplate with the line out!

it's an analog style delay that I built a while ago into the amps effects loop, I might figure out a way of putting it into amps as that'd be a neat feature I think.
