Title: Quite possibly the worst attempt at a fake I have ever seen
Post by: Ian Price on August 03, 2009, 11:16:53 PM
Many things on this made me laugh. The wings, the dot neck with the split diamond headstock, the f-holes and the sellers "I can't tell the difference" statement.

Unf*ckingbelievable:

Now withdrawn from sale, I see.

But how bizarre!  The seller has nearly 800 feedback, 100% positive... not the profile of a scammer at all.

I hadn't seen that - makes it even stranger. Perhaps a kind person pointed out the errors and the listing was swiftly removed.

That split diamond on the headstock is a total catastrophe.

For a second, I thought you all were dissing one of the guitars I built.

n.b. I have never tried to sell a guitar as anything other than what it is.

I like how the seller added a comment on the two-screw truss rod cover; it seems that the seller may know more than he lets on - Epis and most Chinese fakes have a three-screw cover.

At least even with my sausage fingers it would be a breeze to fit some proper pots - which it surely needs :O)

Worst I've seen is a Vintage VEC500 with a Martin logo lashed on the headstock being sold as a DC-28! Slight price difference......

I wouldn't be too judgemental about the seller unless you know better as ebay accounts do get hijacked by fraudsters. This happened to be. Fortunately ebay managed to put a block on my account before any serious harm was done. A rare case of ebay being helpful......

:D - Yes looks enough room there to slip the soldering iron in and do the connections without  removing the pots.

And you could carry your cables, strings, picks and maybe a pedal or two in the other half of the body.  Perfect!

I think it's a Gibson 348 from about 1990, they only made a few, great guitars - a little smaller than a dot but sound just as good

Jeez, that's bad. The 335 rip-off was bad, but that 'Epi' LP is just $%&#ed. It looks like a something someone who can recognise guitar parts has built after having a Les Paul described down the phone to them.

Yeah, +1
I saw it earlier and thought "don't get it..."

I'd guess they didn't make it, they modified some piece of shite to make it look (sort of) like an Epi.  They're clearly not the brightest of sparks, but they must have realised they couldn't pass it off as anything genuinely valuable.

It's probably a bolt-on Epi neck on a cr@ppy, no-name body, innit?

That's what I was thinking, but the trussrod cover and/or headstock inlay look severely off-kilter.  Are Epiphone that sloppy?
