I'm watching some seminar on social conditioning and it got me thinking, you guys who get GAS a lot and spend lots of money because of it
if there was a cure for GAS, would you want it?
-
Nope, absolutely not. Part of the enjoyment for me is in looking out for "better things" that I "really need". For me a world without GAS would be nearly as bad as a world without women.
-
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! MF has KWS Strats on special for their "Fender Fridays".... $499.00 SHIPPED!! Stop me please!!
-
Nope - I love the guitar. Playing, buying, selling, researching etc.
I really enjoy the never ending journey!
-
i think it would involve removing 70% of my brain!
-
I think the cure for GAS is 'no money' :P
If you were to subject someone to mental therapy with the aim of removing GAS, it's likely you would also remove their passion for the guitar and possible music in general. So no, I'll keep my GAS 8)

I have found, on many occassions, that if the GAS is strong enough there is no force in the universe that can stop it. Tell me I'm wrong
-
You are most definately not wrong Ian.

Maybe I don't have GAS. I wouldn't put myself in debt for the sake of some new gear, especially as I already have more kit than talent
-
I agree Plexi Ken - I only spend money I've got. So I wouldn't give up the type of "GAS" I get - it's how I get my jollies, I don't feel like travelling/holidays/cars/wotever, I like geetars :D
If I was sticking us in debt over it, I'd hope my missus would try to get me help... (before she thinks of leaving me!)
-
Indeed, GAS is part of the journey you take as a musician. It helps you explore, evolve and grow.
-
Ohhh Lobotomy is the name of this 'thing' :D
About the money, the only good side of living in a place where your currency is waaaaay cheaper than US$, ₤ and € is that when you don't have money you don't have no way to buy anything, not even parceling it out in 12 times  Also knowing that I've not really played in the last 6 years or so help to cool things down in 98% of time...
-
i'm with ian, it's too much fun. Plus i can more or less control mine, anyway, there's nothing that i *have* to have and i'd never get into debt or anything because of it, i only spend money i can afford to waste. Plus i'm not much good at selling, so i always make sure i definitely want it before buying anything.

Why would I want to stop wanting new guitars? It would be like having to stopping wanking or something...
-
I'd like to be "conditioned" into being a good player, and that way my GAS would be justified.

Wanking and buying guitars/parts are the only sources of pleasure I can never imagine growing bored with..

The Cure you're offering sounds like the cure for Mutantism in X-Men
Why cure something beautiful?
