Can anyone reccommend me some BK's for a Gibson Explorer, I'm aiming for a thick but clear distorted sound, and nice warm lead tones in the neck. (kinda like machine head)
If it helps, I use a Peavey 6505, thanks in advance.
-
miracle man + peavey = instant machine head
-
= instant MODERN machine head.
BME and TMTC are best achieved with painkillers.

no.

Yes.

Perhaps.
Well can't we say (because it's summertime that you both guys agree and that *maybe* the MM is the Thicker whereas the PK is the Clearer, as the OP wants a thick but clear distorded sound ? If anything ?

Welcome to the boards Matchoo ! And what about describing a little more the sound you want to achieve and maybe give another bands examples ?
:jesors:

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
I'm looking for a deep thick but clear sound, kind of like Machine Head for rhythm, and like In Flames too, specially for their lead tones.
I would also like nice warm clean tones in the neck, well, as nice as I can get with the 6505 :)
Hope this helps :)

What album of in flames?
Post up a couple of youtube vids; we'll try to hear through the horrible compression and advise accordingly.
-
Off their latest album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6AvFgS-tP8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6AvFgS-tP8)
My favorite song that they've done haha :)
Thanks in advance
-
definitely Miracle Man
-
That in bridge or neck?
If in bridge, what should I pair it with? (visa versa)
Thank you
-
bridge
the neck version is warm, VERY fat and fluid
but if you want a warmer neck lead tone, the cold sweat neck is unbeatable
-
Would the Cold Sweat in the neck help get the In Flames lead tone? If I remember correctly they use 6505's too.
Thanks for all your help. :)
-
anyone have an idea?
-
Should be fine for it, yeah.
FWIW, I just played got off playing my new c-bomb, and I think its exactly what youre looking for in the bridge.

is it darker and more grindy than the painkiller?
-
Its darker, less grindy, more low mids, similar bass, thicker, less highs and the resonant peak sounds lower, less attack (but lacks nothing in clarity), not quite as tight but its close.
-
haha, I dont know what to get now, Miracle man in bridge or a Ceramic Nailbomb :(
-
I've had both, and for the tone you posted there, MM isnt bad, but C-Bomb has more in common with it, especially in the mids and low end (the top is more like MM top)
-
I want to have good highs too, to help cut through the drums, if you know what Imean.
-
It doesnt have 'bad' highs, just not as high or as much of them. I havent played them in a mix yet, but I guess they wont cut quite as well as painkillers, cold sweats or miracle men, but I dont think they'll have a problem cutting at all.
-
Awesome, thanks for the help :)
-
i've been told by a friend that uses BK's that a warpig may be what im after, what do you think?
-
No.
-
hahaa :)
How about a calibrated Nailbomb in bridge and neck, or with a miracle man in the neck?
-
That wouldnt not work, but I'm sticking with the C-Bomb Cold sweat as my recommendation.
-
So a Ceramic Nailbomb in bridge + a cold sweat in neck?
I think i'll order those when I have the money haha :)
Thanks
-
I still recommend the miracle man
-
Ive heard so many reviews about the Nailbomb and Miracle man, Im totally undecisive :(
-
Between the A5 nailbomb and the MM, its the MM. The a5 isnt sharp enough for that sound. The c-bomb is, and covers the rest of the characteristics of it better than the MM.
-
well, I can't talk about the c-bomb, but I had the miracle man, cold sweat, nailbomb, painkiller, holy diver and a few duncans, gibsons and EMGs mostly in the same guitar, or very close sounding guitars, and I played a long time in a very Machine Head influenced band (we also did a lot of MH covers) and a Machine Head cover project, and the only way to convince me that is any other pickup that would be better for that than the miracle man was, is by sending your pickup to me
-
Well, thats lovely, but put your dick back in your pants because he posted an in flames video as a main reference point, not a machinehead one, we all have the same machinehead albums, live shows and gigs we've been to to compare to, that you were in a machine head cover band is neither here nor there, and we both have had lots of pickups, woopie do for us .
No, you cant have my C-Bomb, I like it :p
If the c-bomb wasnt around I'd say MM was right, but it is, and its better for this. And yes, I've had both, and in 3 guitars for the...no, 4 guitars for the mm, and one of those 4 for the c-bomb.
-
So a ceramic nailbomb would be better than the miracle man?
-
Between the A5 nailbomb and the MM, its the *MM*.
I guess you meaned C-Nailbomb
-
No. I mean between the a5 nailbomb and the mm its the mm and betwen the c8 nailbomb and mm is the c-bomb.
Matchoo, yes.

Ok :D
-
Thank you for all your help, and just to confirm, a cold sweat neck? and would the C-bomb have to be calibrated?
-
No bother, and the CS neck and CNB brige are, I figure, quite well ballanced, but if you order them at the same time tim will make any changes needed.
-
Thats great then, thank you all so much :)
