Title: Has anyone tried EFT?
Post by: fbloke on August 16, 2009, 06:10:17 PM
Hello everyone.

I'm thinking of trying EFT as part of my treatment plan for fatigue.  Has anyone tried it?  If so, what results did you get?

Thanks,

Mike.

Electronic Funds Transfer.
Works everytime if money is coming in :)

Seriously though I have some serious issues in that area. Missed a year of employment not so long ago.
I saw loads of people at the time and was in real despair. I thought I was on the scr@p heap on a perm basis.
I met all sorts of strange practitioners in my search for help.

It turned out swimming worked well for me. No matter how tired you are you can swim. I couldn't swim more than 25m at first. I did it every day for several months and now 2 years later I've recovered 100%. I didn't think exercise would have such a good mental effect as well as physical. Worth looking in to

Swimming and running for me. Very therapeutic.

Tried acupuncture a few times but just on my knee. Sort of worked although I don't think I would consider it for anything non mechanical.

i wish i had time to go swimming or whatever.
I get fatigue really really badly. thought it was a symptom of depression and got on various anti-depresents.
been trying to sort it out for years. I can't stay awake more than 2 hours in a day. its a MASSIVE struggle.
i have no idea what to do now... but swimming you say?

I would definitely give swimming ago. It's the lowest impact exercise you can do and is a great work-out for the whole body.

Presumably a daft question since everyone else seems to know, but what is EFT?

It is Emotional Freedom Technique. Mrs 38th asked me to attend a session to suss it out. I knew nothing before and found it a little akin to hypnosis but with a touch of acupressure lobbed in. I can't say I was bowled over but I could see that it could have a beneficial effect inmany people and it is very relaxing. It does seem to make sense but like others here I beleive that good excercise can also promote wellbeing.

Any form of exercise will make you feel more alive. Nature did design us to go running after animals in the forest and try and kill them, which would have been hard work.

Swimming, can't beat it. I used to swim all the time years ago and like most people gave it up for things like pubs. I took it up again in April this year to get myself moving again after that accident I had back in Feb'. Its been working a treat along with some Osteopath treatment.

My local pool is 33.3m, an old one from the 60's and its a bit bigger than the standard public pools. It took me an hour to swim 12 lengths when i first went and now I do around 40 in the same time and it definitely makes you feel more energised and fit. Plus I've lost a stone so it can't be bad.

Here, here!

Energy generates energy, it's a cyclical thing...  I practice Chi Kung a little in with my Wing Chun, and it highlights the importance of breathing.  Can's survive without air.

Swimming is better than anti-depresents in my opinion.
Find somewhere open late and do it at the end of the day you can really clear your head. Many pools are almost empty in the last hour.
For me it's replaced spliffs as a way to relax.

nah i dont collapse.
take today.
had a good sleep (not too little & not too much), well rested, woke up nicely, got up, showered, dressed went off to the post office at about 10:30, picked up some stuff, got into work a few mins ago, and right now im getting tired. give me till 1pm and ill be using SO much willpower and physical strength just to stay awake... ill be stumbling into walls and desperatly trying to concentrate on anything.

It used to be some much worse, a few years back, id get up at 6.30, go to work in maidenhead from Reading. work 8 till 5.30 get come around 6.30pm and go STRAIGHT to bed fully clothed a few seconds after getting in the door and fall asleep until 6.30am and get up and go to work without even washing or getting changed. I'd also be falling asleep at my desk the whole time and skidding my mouse into my laptop...oops!

I've had blood tests for everything... ive done CBT... ive been on citalpapram and something else (spelling may suck) and i still feel no different. its a HUGE struggle.

the only thing that gives me an idea as to what it could be, is once i was talking to an old colleague and he said his daughter once got bad glandular fever and had it for months, after which she was always fatigued. she got told she had post viral fatigue syndrome... which id never heard of... but a few years ago i got glandular fever for about 8 months and i couldnt even walk 1 mile without having an asthma attack. (bad colds and such give me an asthma like thing). i just thought it would clear up and never went the docs, and since then ive been ruined.

getting anybody to listen to me and not just send me for blood tests or look at me like im stupid is proving VERY difficuly. hence why this thing has gone on for SO many years.

This sounds like classic Chronic Fatigue Syndrome - the onset is often post-viral and the root of the symptoms are in the sympathetic nervous system.  There are many ways of working with this - I've been having treatment for about 5 years now and am 80-90% better.  I'm looking for another treatment to get me back to full energy and have heard good things about EFT, hence my post for research.  I have the results of hundreds of hours of research available, hit me with a private message if you'd like this.   The important thing to understand about CFS above all things is that no matter how it starts it almost always ends up in your upper spine where the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are organised.  By far the most successful treatment for this that I can find is osteopathy.  That's what's got me back to work, exercising and playing guitar.  I still get fatigued but I can function.  You'll find that osteopaths understand things about the spine that most GP's don't - they are very understanding and can treat you very subtly.  The leading bloke in the field is Dr Raymond Perrin and I think his book is essential for CFS sufferers.    It's one of the rare illnesses where you Doctor is unlikely to help but complementary therapy can.   With this in mind you really have to get out there and experiment with a range of treatments until you find what works for you.   I understand how debilitating your symptoms are and I wish you all the best with your recovery.  Please feel free to contact me if I can help.

Cheers,

Mike.
