Hi. I just tried out a Laney GH-50 head today, it was awsome, but I really don't want/need, or can afford, a big 4X4 cabinet. Must I have one? I have micro monitors, couldn't I just plug them into the head? The problem is, there is no combo for this particular amp, so I don't know what to do, but I cannot spend the same price as the amp on a Laney Cab, it would be just too much money, and I don't really have much use for that amount of power right now. What do you think are my options? Thank you.

Hi and welcome.
If the cab is too much than the head is probably overkill, too.
Are you gigging with this head?
If not, look into the Matamp Minimat or Z Vex Nano Head and a 2x12 cab.

welcome to the forum.
You could probably just go with a smaller cab? I'd definately recommend trying out some of the laney valve combo's - i've heard great things. Unless you are gigging you are right - you won't be needing 50W.
However, these models come up quite often on e-bay. You could get the head with the cab for £300-£400 if you monitor it for a while. There's always room for a 4x12!

Have you looked at any alternative cabs?
Marshall do 2x12" loaded cabs, and if you get a 2nd hand one, it's a darn sight cheaper than a new one. Laney might even make a 2x12" cab as well, and though you may need to get it new, it'll be cheaper than the equivalent Marshall (in theory of course... :? ).
Check out eBay and your local musical emporiums.

In last month's Guitarist they reviewed several speakers, and the Fane (HiWatt used them) AXA12 Alnico handles 100 watts and clocks in at £138, got a pretty alright review too, but that couple with an attenuator would allow you to use the GH-50 at sane volume levels, though I would agree that if 50 watts is a bit much that it's worth looking elsewhere. The cost of an attenuator, a 1X12 then swapping a suitably powerful speaker in might make a combo a far more economic option.

I have a 1 x 12 cab with a Celestion G12T-75 that's doing nothing. PM me if you're interested.
