Title: Whoops no wah!? :(
Post by: donovan.x on August 23, 2009, 11:17:56 AM
Ok I think I already know the answer but on the off chance here we go. Have just set up all my gear after it was out of the house for a while and I made a bit of a boo boo,  I have a a set of pedals all running from a 'dc on tap' daisy chain, now the pedals all run in the following chain wah>distX>satch dist>Chorus>delay>, everything apart from the dist x runs from this 'dc on tap', the distx runs from its own power supply, the distx power supply is 16v and the rest run on 9v, in my excitment of having a good old noodle I accidently plugged the 16v power supply in to the daisy chain for the rest of the pedals and now the wah wont work, everything else in the chain works fine, is it possible that the wah took the brunt and saved everything else (very heroic indeed) or might there be a coincidental problem that I am missing, as I said, I think I know in my heart that I have blown my wah up (very rock and roll but also very pants!)
Any assistance from you tech minded genius's would be greatly apreciated.

I apologise for any typos but I am very distressed at the apparent demise of my wah!  :( :(

if the wah has some amount of protection on the supply line, you might be lucky - check for a diode from V+ to ground.

I would just check it with a 9v battery first though.

How would I check for a diode from v+ to ground?

Update; Tried a battery and nothing! One of the led's light up but the wah won't actually 'wah' and when I engage it the signal more than halve's in terms of output. Is this something that can be fixed by a local guitar shop or does it need to go back to Vox?

Some component in your Wah pedal didn't like have 16V up it.

All electronic components have a maximum voltage they can withstand.

The two most likely components in a wah wah that wouldn't like it up it would be an electolytic cap or a transistor.

This should be very easy for a compentent tech to fix.
