Soon to be ordering my Irish Tour set but I was wondering if I can remove the base plates if I don't like them?
I'm thinking of trying them out on the neck pickup (as well as the bridge) but I'm thinking it might be too muddy
They are going into a swamp ash strat body with a mahogany neck.
Easy enough, or will it be a bit of a pain?
Starting my next project already so I can get a set of apaches

Huummmm I've never played one, but from what I remember they change the tone of the pickup but not THAT MUCH :D
I wouldn't worry about... In the end I doubt Tim would wind a pickup that would be muddy...

I use a baseplate on a bridge pickup, but see no reason on a neck or middle pickup for one.

Thanks gents,
saved me a tenner (£10). I'll put it in the Apache fund

I would put on all
In the other way of Yellowv I don't see reasons to NOT put on neck and middle :D

A baseplate is desined to give more low end and take away some of the harsh brightness a Strat bridge pickup usually has. The neck and middle positions don't have that problem so you don't need them and it could add a bit of mud to the sound of the neck pickup.

In your point a view :D
I would like a little more push to be a little like P90's :P

A baseplate will add a little more low end. It's not going to add output.

In that case, you might want to get your hands on an actual P90 or MQ, 'cause I think the size of the actual magnet, plus the different housing do something to the sound that added heat just can't touch. I find P90s to be both aesthetically and sonically pleasing :D
EDIT: I don't know if a muddy BKP is possible, I've had an MQ under some nasty, quite disgraceful distortion and it was still clear.

Thanks for all that.
I've ordered the Irish Tours up with just the base plates on the bridge.
I'll get the Apaches with base plates on the middle and neck and then swap around onto the IT's (if it's easy enough to do).
P90's.
Hmmmmm......... now I've got a tele around here somewhere that would look the business with a P90 on the neck.

Sorry if I was not real clear, I meaned "fatness" instead of output :D
