Title: NSHFUGD (Tele content advisory)
Post by: Andrew W on August 29, 2009, 02:46:50 PM
So I finished hot-rodding my '96 Mexican Tele eBay spectacular last night hence my New Second Hand Fixer Upper Guitar Day.  The story started in this thread (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18350.0) but I thought it should come here now that the project's done.  Sound clips and better photos to come.  I'm really happy with how it all turned out, the Piledriver/MQ combination on this guitar kicks like a mule, which is just what I wanted; it's a seriously raucous beast.

This is the first time I've ever completely taken a guitar apart and rebuilt it from scratch including wiring a new loom.  Normally I limit myself to just installing new pickups so this project was as much for me to learn as anything else.  Here's a few pictures telling the story of its transformation:

I'm dead jealous.... How did you route the neck pickup in the end?

Doesn't seem he used a mojo router. Not a drill mark in sight.

Really nice guitar there, I loved the sound of the MQ in the neck of my tele, and I'm frothing at the prospect of another set of Piledrivers.

I weighed up the cost of buying power tools and the fact that there's no space in my flat to perform this kind of operation against getting it done properly and in the end I just paid Tim Marten on Denmark St. thirty quid to sort it for me.  The rest of the work I did myself but that was a task I decided I was not equipped to perform.

Looks very nice! My favourite colour scheme/fingerboard wood on a tele.

It is.  With the weight of the body and the hefty pickups it's almost like a Les Paul but with more bite.  It's perfect for all my Jimmy Page/ Rev Willy G type shenanigans.  These pickups really punch hard; I love them. :)

There's some proper photos now here (http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=18630.0).
