Title: Tele Deluxe
Post by: Spitfire on September 07, 2009, 09:46:08 AM
hey guys, im looking at getting hold of a tele deluxe.

Ive been reading up on them and it seems like to get the best from it the 250k pots in the reissue need swapping for 500k or 1meg pots to brighten up the guitar which is all well and good...

but also, if i was to swap out the pickups if i wasnt happy with them id need a new pickguard cut to fit standard hums not the fender wide range pickups.. warmoth say that thiers wont fit on anything but their deluxe bodies, so thats not an option.  Anyone know where i can pick one up from??

i would preferably want to stick with the widerange hums.. if the pot swap works.. but the option to BK it should always be there.

You could always get BKP to rewind the Wide Ranges - that's what I'd do.

I believe the reissue ones are just standard buckers in the larger Wide Range cover........

Yeah, you can send them a tracing of your existing scratchplate and they'll copy it - with changes to pickup cutouts as required.  They do a pretty good job, quite expensive though.

I understand part of the problem with the Wide Range hums in reissue Fenders is that the magnets are nothing like the originals, including being made of a different material.

Original WRH cost a fortune nowadays. Funny, as not long ago you could not give them away.

This is what I've read too.  The originals are CuNiFe and had large bobbins that filled the metal case.  The new ones have different magnets and the bobbins are regular size with a big gap between them.  Not at all the same pickup really.

yea, ive read that... i know the pickups arn't the same as the originals.. the biggest prob with the deluxe are the 250k pots... imo just because the pickups are not the same as the originals.. it doesn't instantly make them a bad pickup... ive heard quite a lot of good come out of tele deluxe reissues.
