Title: Nylon String Guitars?
Post by: Catalyst77 on September 09, 2009, 10:50:30 PM
I'm thinking about getting myself a nylon string guitar but haven't go the faintest idea where to start :?

Is it worth getting an electric or acoustic? if i got an electric would i need a special amp to run it??

I'm quite interested in doing a bit of spanishy flamenco stuff and mixing it up with a bit of blues and rock for a solo project i'm working on, so ive got no pre-idea of any particular sound as such, i don't even know what makes are good or how much you have to spend to get whats deemed a good guitar!

is there anyone out there in the ether who can give me a bit of advice?

All help most enthisicatically welcomed

iirc Tony was selling his nylon Nathan Sheppard, you might want to look in seconds out.

Interested in this also. I'd like one with a cutaway for ease of play and I found a couple of nice looking ones on ebay when I looked the other day. I think it was an Ibanez, a Fender and a Hudson or something all about £200 electro-nylon. I have no idea about the tonalities of the woods used in acoustic guitars though.

You might also look at Godin - they have a good range of nylon strung guitars

When I was looking into this , I rather fancied the Ibanez ( what is now the A100 ANT ? ) - as it had nylon strings, an onboard 'Fishman' pickup and pre-amp with an XLR socket as well as the jack socket. The main feature was that it seemed to have a Les Paul type neck dimension, but with the tonal attributes of a more 'Classical' model.

It would have been my choice as a second guitar - as the Godin made 'lush' looking instruments of the same type, but at ( relatively )  high prices.

Look at Yamaha, I had a classical nylon with cutaway and electrics and it was a great little guitar.

Tanglewood are okay for the price but the £250-£300 Fender is meant to be very good....
