Just finished up the final touches on my latest song called Earthless. Spent about two months writing, recording, and mixing it until I got a happy medium which works well through most sound systems. All the guitars are my Epi SG Custom loaded with an Alnico V Pig in the neck, a Pig-90 in the middle, and a Ceramic Pig in the bridge. The pickup selector is in the middle position for the right guitar, and on the Ceramic Pig for the left (lead) guitar. These are seriously the bassiest pickups on the market and, in conjunction with a detuned guitar, tend to be a little overkill at times. But it sounds so \m/\m/
Guitars:
Epi SG Custom (3 x BKP Warpigs) > D*A*M Sonic Titan (boost) > Matamp GTO120 (Mercury Magnetics trannies) > Magus Ultimate Attenuator > Emperor 2x15 (Eminence Big Bens - miked on upper speaker for the right [rhythm] track) > Marshall 1960b 4x12 (Gt-75's - miked on the lower speaker for left [lead] track) > SM57 > Tascam US122L usb interface > Cubase Essential 4
Vocals:
Audio-Technica AT2020 > US122L > Cubase
Bass:
Epiphone T-Bird Pro-V > DI > US122L > Ampeg SVX plug in
Drums:
EZDrummer DKFH
I'd really appreciate any comments or critiques for the songwriting, recording, or mix.

I really like the riffage, sounds quite Sword-esque. Probably my favourite of yours I've heard so far.. Quite an authentic stoner metal done you've got going as well :) I've said it before and I'll say it again, without trying to sound too harsh, I think you should find a better singer as your voice is quite grating (imo) !

Listening to the mix, I'd change a few things as follows:
boost the bass guitar at around 200-300Hz, plus high pass fiter at around 40-60Hz,
very slight boost on the vocals at 2500Hz, and cut it @650Hz
boost the bass drum @ 60Hz a bit, to give it more energy so it's below the bass guitar. the attack on the drum compression is a bit too high and the release too low, try altering this, until it blends with the guitars better, you should hear when it locks into place,
The main thing I found was the bass guitar not cutting through the mix enough, and the vocals,
I also think the reverb doesn't fit the vocal sound, in fact if it was dryer but more compressed it would help it cut through even more,
generally though the standard of recording and mixing is very high!
I hope this helps you out and isn't too critical, I'm more of a mixing engineer than guitarist these days : )
I have a question though: did you use automation?
