Title: Pedal Repair
Post by: Lu_B on September 16, 2009, 10:04:14 PM
Can anybody recommend somewhere for pedal repairs.

The LED has packed up on my MXR carbon copy and I'd like to get it fixed.

Cheers

Louise

Assuming it is the LED it's very easy to change, although it's quite rare for LEDs to fail.

However it could also be a problem with the switching.

Most techs would probably charge £15-20 + parts to fix this.

rest of the pedal sounding fine?

if the LED is easy to get at, you could get a battery and 2 pieces of wire to test it

The pedal seems to be working fine, switches and the delay, regen, mix and modulation are all ok.

Many pedals use a 3P3T switch to provide true bypass using 2 of the poles and the third pole to switch the LED. I've occasionally seen pedals where the pole of the switch used for the LED has failed but the other poles are OK so the pedal works fine put there is no LED.

By the way, testing the LED with a 9V battery without a dropping resistor will kill the LED.
