And my Vigier.. and my modded RG..
Going back to Uni and I just played the most awesome time with my Vigier and RG and the VHT sounded like the beast it is.. and I go back tomorrow at 11am.. :(
Back to the Toneport.
DAMN YOU CRUEL WORLD!

There are fewer greater tone-falls possible.
Ner ner ne ner ner.
But on the other hand, youre a scummy student with a VHT. I didnt even get a TSL till 4th year!

How the world has changed.

Since 2000 to 2004?
I think not.
You just have a far better amp and guitar than most guitarists in your position (i.e. between the ages of 18 and 22 and at uni) have. I'm rather bemused as to how a student can afford that gear, even at very optimistic second hand prices: you've got it good, dont complain!
-
When I was at university, I had a Peavey Bandit 65 transister amp...
Mind you, that was 1990...
-
A carslbro GLX80 did me for 3.5 years of it - even the TSL was a 21st birthday present!
-
Are you going back to Indie + pod then?
-
As a student (1981-1984) I had a Laney Mighty 8 practice amp, then a Roland Cube 60 (old style, not the new ones with loads of digital effects!), then a Sessionette 75 which I still have (doesn't work any more though).
My only guitar was a nice one, my Hamer Special. They were a bit cheaper then, though - £250 new. :)
-
I'm a student and have ok gear too. Mature student though, god I hate that term.
-
The Sessionettes were GREAT amps! You should get that working again, PQ...
-
Yeah, Elliot was telling me they're pretty simple and easy to fix.
Then again, I don't do electronics any more complicated than two volumes, two tones and a switch.
-
Guitar into Amplitube 2 works well enough for my uni practice rig! Obviously not as good as the Laney I have at home but its not terrible. I have a Kustom KGA65 I could bring but probably not worth it.
-
while i was at uni i went thru a mesa mk4.. a 6505, a vox ac30/6tb.. (the vox was a straight swap for the mesa though).. total waste of money was that lot.. all of them trade on thier name imo.
-
haha, sorry to hear that. i remember when i was at uni looking forward to the weekend so i could play my gear again. :D

Yeah I'm back to the Indie, and everything else is going just to have cash rather than guitars. Keeping the Toneport and this belated response shows I have no Internet at my place where I'm living and I have to make trips to the University just to use the Internet, balls!
Hopefully get that sorted by next week and have Freeview going for some endless Dave :P

I was playing a gig with 3 other bands this weekend and they were all student age, I counted:
1 Diezel VH4
1 Framus Dragon
1 Krank Krankenstein
1 Axe FX
and admittedly 1 Marshall MG something
I guess some students can shell out serious $$ for gear these days
-
I had good gear when I was a student, but I bought used gear and worked my arse off all summer, and always had jobs in term time too.
I seem to recall having the following in my student days (at various times)...
* 50w Marshall Silver Jubilee head (paid £280)
* a late 70s Marshall 4x12 with 25w G12Ms in (£100)
* 30th Anniversary AC30 (was a LOUD amp, solid state rectification gave it more poke), £550
* Hiwatt Custom20 2x10 combo (£500)
* 63 Fender Twin with JBL D-120s (£450)
* Fender Tonemaster (bought for £300, second-stock)
* always had my 1991 Les Paul Standard loaded with Duncan Seth Lovers for probably 8 years
