Title: Gibson 500T and Duncan Jazz: what BKP to use?
Post by: josep_cla on September 27, 2009, 03:30:18 PM
Hi guys!
I have a 500T and a Jazz in my strat. What BKP should I buy?
I like how they sound, but want to try these BKP lol.

Thinked about Painkiller or Miracle Man on bridge, but not shure about what neck one.
I prefer an Alnico neck.

Any Guesses? (also for bridge!)

Thanks!!!

Interesting combo. I imagine that the 500T bridge is quite a lot more powerful than the Jazz neck?

If you're definitely going with PK or MM in the bridge & can live with the existing power inbalance between the bridge & neck then I'd say Holy Diver neck.

You'll get the same brightness & a very clean, clear sound that lends itself to sparkly clean tones, but the HD neck does it a lot better than the Jazz IMHO :)

Of course, there are several other things to consider here: what woods your strat is made of, what sounds you want to achieve etc, but whether the PK or MM are the best choice for you or not, they're still a huge improvement over the 500T :)

You might really like the Cold Sweat set
The CS bridge which is ceramic is probably the closest to the 500T and you'll find the CS neck which is alnico a nice replacement to the Jazz

had a 500t/jazz combo briefly and thought it was decent.

+1 on the cold sweat set for the same reasons as feline

But be warned:  the CS neck will sound about 1,000,000,000 times better than the Jazz.  It could come as a bit of a shock.

Not a problem in the neck IMO. The CS neck is a more balanced pickup than the bridge.
