If only it was coming up for sale soon...............
;)

Is that a hint? How cheeky is that :P
-
-
 That is a dirty stroke!
I love it too!
-
Wouldn't it be great if it might be for sale, I dunno, say next Thursday afternoon?
;)
-
C'mon, what's all this about then? :?
-
I couldn't possibly say, Phil.
I know nothing.................

I think Dave and I knew it was only a matter of time.

So will there be a new, er..... [dyslexia]start[/dyslexia] on the horizon?

So will there be a new, er..... [dyslexia]start[/dyslexia] on the horizon?
:D That's a distinct possibility.

Oh dear..
-
It's not that nice if you're selling it then...
-
Oh please put that poor sod out of it's misery.
With a crowbar.
-
Are you talking about me or the gee-tar??? :?
Shobet - it's an awful guitar mate, awful. Terrible. Fender's worst.

I propose to start a collection for BKP forum members to contribute toward... Time-share Fender CS Tele FORUM ASSETS. :P
The aim is to purchase this guitar before Twinfan and hold it (stored perfectly) until contributors agree that Dave has demonstrated adequate self-control and fully understands the value of delayed gratification. :?
It will be made available for BKP meets and weddings.
Who's in?

once it belongs to the philly, gwem, afgan consortium we'll get badgermark to customise it with a big humbucker and tuned air holes

The collective BKP Tele GAS has been..... UNLEASHED!!!!
Cower before it's might...
I have a dream where all can claim a share of a Top Bound CS Tele..
And when this happens, when we allow the telecaster to twang, when we let it twang from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:
Ours at last!
Ours at last!
Thank God Almighty, it is ours at last!
(apologies to MLK - I got carried away) :?

Who'd have known this would develop into such a classic thread?

Going with the customise theme are we going to beddazzle it with gems as well *L*
-
I dunno, this particular specimen looks a bit bashed up to me, couldn't we wait until a decent one comes on the market?
I'm not surprised this rumoured transaction is/might be happening though.
Ian, I reckon in an ideal world you'd obviously be hanging on to it as well, but the recent GAS, and my own experiences of joy with a new guitar over the last two weeks lead me to believe that, like me, you're one of these folk who have to have at least one of "Leo's other geetar" for the good of their soul... :D
And Dave, for all your protestations of "contentedness" the other week - it was obvious, ever since this creature first appeared in our little community, that you have been "coveting another man's woman" ... I see no problem with that at all .... :D (especially if the other man is happy to sell her to you for a mutually agreed number of sheeps and goats)
-
This is the only guitar I would add to my (much smaller than it used to be) stable. As you can tell, there is a deal in the works and if it all falls into place then I'll be down to 12 guitars.
Did you read that PhillyQ? I'll have reduced to the mythical dozen!!!!
-
:D I do have a gut feeling this is the "it was meant to be" scenario. Hope it all falls into place ("all" includes the "stunning strat" down the line Ian :D)
However, I do think we need to highlight this bit though, for future "reference" and general forum amusement at otherwise quiet times... (I'm sure you'd agree Philly )

It's true!
Ah, well, oh, you see....
The only other guitar I'd have to buy if I came across one would be a PRS Modern Eagle stoptail in Emerald Green. Rare as hens teeth anyway, and I don't think any came to the UK in this colour. Plus with the Brazilian Rosewood trade rules now in place importing one isn't an option. And I haven't got the money for one, so it's a pipe dream!
But they're gorgeous:

Yeah - I'm not surprised either. A few things have swung it for me:
- Baby number 2 is on the way and I wouldn't be able to justify a second guitar for a few more years i.e. act now or have strat cravings for a few more years.
- I'm into strats in general - Hendrix and Frusciante are my most favouritist bestest guitarists
- A good priced strat is available with the spec I want - will add some pics etc next week
- The Esquire, whilst very lovely, doesn't offer me the strat tone that I crave
- I had considered changing the pickups and switching on the Esquire to get me closer to a strat sound but realised this was just a load of folly as it would have cost quite a bit and it still wouldn't sound like a strat
And most importantly:
- I wanted to remove Dave's GAS contentedness :D
So, a good deal all round I think. Jane gave me the rolling eyes look this morning when I told her my plans. I gave myself the rolling eyes look when I realised I would be going through the gear change process again.

You're so kind, a real gent!

Now THAT... is sex-on-a-stick - woo!
You've finally managed to find a PRS that does it for me visually!
I'm guessing an arm, a leg, a testicle, and various other valued objects might be required if one were to find one of these!!
Not sure this option would be open to you (I'm not attached to the PRS "name" like I am Fender, I'm guessing you might be by now?) - but if I had the money etc, the custom build route might be looking attractive... I'd be tempted to show up at Feline with pictures of this and say "ummm... Jonathan??"
-
That looks hideously double stained to me, a bit OTT. Your Rosewood McCarty looked better IMO

I spoke to Wez a while back, before I got my Modern Eagle, and he didn't think he could source a Brazilian Rosewood neck blank............

12 guitars??!!! That's ridiculous, bare bones! :o
If you ever want to go down to 11, I'm in for the Fano....

I must admit I didn't think of the "rosewood neck" side of it Dave - I'd probably be happier with a cheaper/easier alternative, I'd forgotten that was one of the key points for you :D
-
(cute lookin green thing)
Ooooh - that's pretty!!
!!! Get a grip man...
Remember why we're here in this thread...
strat, STRAT!!!
Concentrate on one thing at a time
-
I'm so jealous  The Esquire is gorgeous 8)

Here's a quick peek at what Ian has started to get his fingers on...

Unlikely I'll move the Fano on to be honest Phil, but if the need ever arises I'll be in touch.....

Not white??!
For some reason I was expecting white...
And it's nice to see that the CS neck plate screws (on relics) have that "screwed in and out a bit, but not necessarilly with the right screwdriver every time" effect on them as well - I had to do a bit of filing-down on the ones on my Roadworn, one of them kept catching on my clothes!!!
-
I guess you were thinking of the white-over-sunburst ones Andy? The pickup choice on those is a bit oddball, this one's got more of that Hendrix/Frusciante flavour that Ian's after...
-
Not white??!
For some reason I was expecting white...
Sorry to disappoint Andy!
The white over sunburst ones are nice, as is the LPB with maple board, as is the red sparkle one that V&R had. In factI like pretty much all strats!
-
I saw one of those L.P. Blue maple board ones on a site last night - very nice!
(Made me think of your Esquire, oddly enough!)

Cheeky mother$%er. I charge top dollar for my drilling and speed holes, guaranteed to make you play 34% faster*.
Shame you're getting rid of the Esquire Ian, felt like an awesome guitar when I had a strum on it. But a strat does cover more bases. I'm planning another strat, I've had 4 now and got rid of them all. I like the IDEA of them, but get bored after a while...
*not true.

Yeah, that's the one - I wasn't sure if it was on there or Peach.
Peach have a similar one with a rosewood board, but in this case I think I prefer the maple. :)
-
Jesus! This topic is very GAS inducing!
Congrats Dave! Good luck Ian!
-

yeah - a bit of a shame. I'm happy that it is going to a fellow BKP forum member though. It really does need to be unleashed on a live audience.

The rosewood one on Peach looks very similar to the one I am going for.
The maple one does look nice. I like the LPB colour, it's making it easier to deal with losing the Esquire!
-
i think its the right choice, i have said before ian struck me as more of a strat man - even if he had just sold off a strat at the time ;) i am also happy the esquire is staying as it is, ian and i discussed some possible mods and wiring schemes and even hadd a lesson or two on series vs parallel wiring, but its so nice stock that i think it deserves to stay that way (dont be getting ideas dave!!)
brazilian rosewood neck blanks - if i come across one i am happy to use I will hold onto it (probably would anyway). i do have some exotic blanks for fender style necks but would have to scarf for a PRS style angled headstock, not really an issue but when building out of these types of wood i like things as simple as possible. the main issue is the size needed and the amount i have to waste for a PRS style neck, then finding a piece that size that is good enough quality for me to want to use it... its a mine field!!
-
Have no fear Ian - it'll head out to woo the crowds at the next Doppelganger gig in December!
Assuming the deal takes place of course - getting ahead of myself there
-

:D Remember the reason I sold my strat? 7.25 radius and vintage frets. The strat was purchased before I was really fussy about radius and fret size. The 9.5 radius and 6105s on the Esquire turned me!

Would love to see/hear it in actiopn. Vids are a must.
I'm also getting ahead of myself now!

On the subject of those Custom Shop Esquires, anyone seen these clips?

The Esquire now belongs to Dave. I have a strat. We are both happy.
I'm sure Dave will start a new esquire thread soon!
And Philly - those clips are good but what is going on with Jimmy Vaughans sound on the seocnd clip, it's pretty awful. And I've just bought a strat :o
-
I hadn't seen those Billy Gibbons clips before, good to see the Rev jamming some blues tunes on the CS Esquire, sounded pretty good to me.
Ian - hope you post pics of your new strat, and hope Twinfan is happy with the Esquire ;)

I've watched those clips a few times ;)
Nice to see you again today Ian - new thread starting imminently....

Errrrm? Yeah... Really... that friendship is LOADS more impressive that the sheer brilliance of Billy G as a player, multi platinum artist & all round tone god :?
I despair sometimes, I really do... :P

I'm glad I could bring a touch of hopelessness into you life

I thought you stated that you were GAS free about a month ago, Twinfan. Didn't seem to last that long :P
-
I did state that yes, and if Ian's specific guitar hadn't come up for sale I wouldn't have been buying anything....
-
Billy Gibbons and Rory were "buddies" too (inasmuch as anyone was a buddy of Rory) - RG helped ZZ Top out with a US support slot early in the 70s and ZZ top returned the favour some years later...
Interestingly... Mr Gerry McAvoy (Rory's bassist) is convinced that the later "beards" were inspired by Mr Tom O'Driscoll's appearance (RG tech, road manager, etc) on the early RG tour...
NEway big congrats to Ian & Dave - glad it worked out as planned :D
-
Niiiice

I'm now seeing I'm not the first on the whole GAS subject. Well, I must congratulate you with´what seems like a really nice guitar, Twinfan. I hope you enjoy it :D

He'd be a fool to offer odds like that - he'll get SHAFTED by the lot of us!!
50-1 on might be better
EDIT: Sorry, mikeluke, I just realised - you looking for someone to take your bet? (I thought you were offering to match the rest of us!!)
-
Been a while since I went a betting, admittedly

IMHO odd are more like 50-1 on....
