Title: Something for my Carvin
Post by: Stevepage on October 02, 2009, 08:45:24 PM
Well, I'm fairly happy with the Duncan Distortion in my Carvin DC right now, but I'm not too sure on the tone when I play something less heavy, more 'Satch' ish.

I've considered the Nailbomb but I'm still not sure. I'd like something that sounds pretty heavy with lots of clarity but isn't too compressed. Please give a suggestion  :P

It's a 5 piece maple neck with 2 koa stripes I think. Ebony fretboard and mahogany wings.

So its bright then.

Maybe something thats got some thickness and balls but not all that powerfull, like the HD?

I'd be wary of a cold sweat in that. I have a cold sweat in the swamp ash body, 3pc mahogany neck warmoth mockingbird you sold me, which also has a gotoh in which has a brass block, so its another source of 'warmth' in the tone - that could do, as is, what youre after here, and you know how different that guitar is to what (you probably) have there.

Did used to have a Holy Diver in an Ibanez RG I had. Which also had a mahogany body and maple neck. Ceramic or Alnico?

How is my old Warmoth btw?

Id go for A5 if you dont want too much slamming bass/attacking highs.

The Warbird, as I call it, its rather happy - gotoh trem, cold sweat for versatility and to offset its darker sound (on 24.75 and in drop A#, the brightness helps too), tidy up the fit and what I could of the finish and its a welcome member of the Guitarmy.
