Post by: Gizmo on October 07, 2009, 07:51:13 PM
Hi all.

Can any one help by recommending an insurance company in the uk which covers musical equipment and contents ensurance upto higher levels. I have some nice guitars now and electrical equipment.

I got burgled today but they didnt take anything of mine.

I cant believe it. anyway... i tried ensleigh and they wouldnt ensure me for the value of my guitars.

I think the issue is I dont own the property I rent it.

Any advice welcome.

They broke into all three flats on the top floor and ransacked the other two. my room must have been the last place they went to and ran out of time or something.

my house mate lost ps3 etc but none of my electrical gadgets.

Very bad news. Possible they stole the PS3 as it was the most obvious thing? What gadgets of yours did they leave?

I got insurance last month from Direct Line.  I live in a rented property too and they haven't actually asked what I'm insuring.  Contents cover up to £50k, with valuables (jewelery etc) not exceeding £15k of that amount.  Guitars and stuff are covered, but not counted as valuables.  £3.5k of personal cover for when me and the missus are out and about (her engagement and wedding rings and my watch).

I think you only have to declare any item worth over £2k.  Costs me about £15 a month, but they had an offer on at the time.

Also includes accidental damage, so I'm thinking of accidentally throwing the remote through the telly
