Doing a special Halloween show in a few weeks, and was thinking about a few covers. Songs which spring to mind are:
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akt3awj_Ah8
Dr. Stein - Helloween
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7EG4SY324s
any other suggestions? :)
(of course the other dilemma is if I play a V or a Strat.. but thats another story :) )
-
The Misfits - Helloween or Helloween II, the first is better though
Monster Mash?
-
Dude,
How could you have a halloween party and NOT do the Monster Mash?

Of course, Thriller also comes to mind-

I always find Warpigs particularly terrifying... You can never have enough Sabbath, IMO...
;)
-
Werewolves of London by Warren Zevon.

warpigs /is/ terrifying, and i'm sure you're aware of the older version (Walpurgis) with spooky black magic lyrics:

Bad Moon Rising and You Put A Spell On Me, Creedence Clear Water Revival :D (probably shobet's suggestion prompted this train of thought...)
Is your singing up to doing a bit of Frank? Witchcraft, That Old Black Magic, etc... maybe not, eh?
Know any fiddle players? The Devil Went Down to Georgia.
Rory Gallagher, The Devil Made Me Do It - actually, that could be a serious suggestion, it could fit in more "metal" environment, it's a simple pedal-to-the-metal boogie, with a very catchy chorus for an audience that's never heard it before (it's on the Jinx album).

Everything by the Nekromantix.

In particular this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOD7-y3Y_Eo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOD7-y3Y_Eo) named Trick Or Treat.

"Black No.1" by Type O Negative.
Not a great band really, but an awesome song!
-
there are a few wednesday 13 songs

You can't have Hallowe'en without King Diamond! :)

In a Gadda Da Vida always sounds Halloweeny to me for some reason.
-
Anything from the Rock Horror Show or Nightmare Before Christmas. :)
-
Bark at the Moon?
-
Black Widow - Come to the Sabbat, Atomic Rooster - Death Walks Behind You
-
The Cramps.
I have lots of utterly horrible music that will scare people, but hallowe'en needs to be daft and fun.
-
In A Gadda Da Vida has been used in several horror movies, that's why it might be a good choice.
-
How about a Tom Waits number?
-
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I'll listen to them all and have a bash at covering one of them :)
-
Halloween by the Dead Kennedys?
Just as a reserve if the crowd fail to meet expectations.
-
was watching seinfeld last night and thought of another one
witchy woman
or is it pronounced witchay woman
-
anything by Insane Clown Posse
-
Best Halloween rock tune ever!
Alice Cooper - Feed My Frankenstien!
-
anything by Insane Clown Posse
I thought the aim was to play helloween themed songs that people (not just jugalos) would enjoy?
Maybe play ICP at the end of the night when you want everyone to leave.
the bassist in my old band ended up with an icp tattoo on his back after cabin fever set in on a 14hr drive on our aussie tour last year.
-
i wanna do an aussie tour...
...ps. i dont actually like ICP
-
neither does he.
aussies pretty cool, we just played mostly diy shows and all the dudes from other bands were real good to us, putting us up for the night, cookin us feeds etc.
The only dumb thing is the distance between cities. if you go direct from brisbane to sydney it takes a long time, theres byron bay or newcastle that you can play in between but we didnt, byron bay is mostly a metalcore scene and we couldnt sort out a newcastle show so we played brisbane one night, got up at 5:30 the next morning drove to sydney then played that night.
-
how about the theme tune to the film 'Halloween'? It's very creepy
-
Played a Black Sabbath medley in the end
