currently giving my les paul studio a revamp and it needs a new bridge pick-up. i play music ranging from punk rock to post-hardcore, usually slap bang inbetween. here's some samples of the type of tones i'd like to achieve...

looking for lots of power and harmonic range but very clear and punchy with a nice controllable feedback. i play lots of open chords with my amp set up with a pretty big amount of gain and lots of mids so keep that in mind! i don't care a huge deal for cleans, although it would be nice if it would sound nice with no distortion.
i was currently thinking about getting a miracle man, how about it?
-
no-one?
-
Sorry matey, I hate seeing threads without replies but I don't even know what post-hardcore is. :?
Maybe someone else will chirp up soon.

Cold Sweat...?
(yeah, I do think that this pickup will do everything... ever.. but hey!)
They have the ceramic sharpness but hit that fat thing too. Not tried Holy Divers but those babies are high on my list. PBC had a sharper guitar tone (CS), GaA was thicker... HD/Pig?

ah that's interesting, hadn't considered the cold sweat or holy diver! i really like the description of the cold sweat, maybe a slightly overwound version would suit me perfect?

Just to complicate things, I've heard it said that the Ceramic Nailbomb is basically an overwound Cold Sweat. Haven't tried one though.
-
Ah really? I already have a regular Nailbomb in my SG and I love it. Would like a slightly different tone though, maybe a bit smoother and tighter.
-
FWIW the Cold Sweat is at least as hot as the stock A-bomb.
I love the calibrated CS set in my rosewood necked PRS Custom 24. Tossed up getting the 7 stringe version in my Blackmachine but we decided to go A-Pig for full comedy OTT action. My amp's tight so A-Pig girth was a deliberate choice.
As far as full spectrum tonality and versatility goes, the Cold Sweat is a fantastic pickup! High and lower gain. Love it! It seems to like having a good bit of wood behing it. ;)
-
i just checked out some clips of the CS and it suprised me how good they sounded. pretty much just what i was looking for!
-
Cool!
They do give the impression of being a 'jack of all trades' pickup, but the thing is that they are really good at most things.
Bridge... Clean - check. Mid gain - check. Tight heavy rhythm - check. Singing leads - check.
The neck is a very clean and defined sounding pickup. It's not warm, believe me, but it sounds damned good.
-
only thing now is to decide what to make it look like! i saw someone on here with an open-coiled bucker with black slugs and black allen cap bolts...that would look awesome on my les paul so i might just steal that idea!
here's a mock-up of what it would look like with that pickup. very mean!

2 words:
F**king zebras!
No competition.
I... posted my zebra-ed PRS here: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=19071.0
Zebras make the guitar exactly 157% more rock'n'roll. Which is good. Honest.
-
hmm you reckon? i do agree zebra's are more rock 'n' roll!
standard white/black zebra with black allen cap bolts would go so well with the rest of the guitar...shame i can't afford 2 though!
-
Haha, get zebra for the bridge and when you can afford it zebra reverse for the neck!!
Glad you also know that rock'n'roll > everything else!
Note: I'me rather drunk tonight.
EDIT: If Tim offered 7 string versions they'd have gone here: http://www.blackmachine.net/b7.htm This one's mine and I'm irritataed that I couldn't follow the scheme of my PRS. Grr..!!

If your Les Paul was a matte gun metal grey, a gold covered pickup for neck, and completely black opened pickup for bridge would be off the hook. I love the black on black style, so this is a pretty cool idea to begin with. This would be perfect if the neck marks weren't there imo. Still cool, though :)
-
now i'm thinking maybe a white opencoil for the bridge with black slugs / bolts... i think that would look ace!
-
after a bit of thinking, i'm pretty keen on this. i really like the 1 reverse zebra coil look!:

think i'm gonna order the p-up soon!
-
2 and a half days after ordering it...here it is! Overwound Cold Sweat with allen cap screws on both coils...Warpig style!
The guitar isn't ready yet, but here's some teaser shots...
