Guitar in question: Ernieball Musicman JP6.
Problem: I'm getting bored with the whole scooped mids thing in the bridge. The Steve's Special was nice when i was still after that early Petrucci tone. Now, I'm sort of after tonal size and serious chug. I don't really like compression, as i find that sort of reduces your tonal footprint. For the neck, I need something fat, yet clear, since the stock neck pup (based on an air norton) isn't really working. The guitar, being a 24 fretter, already closes up the tone a bit, unlike a 22 fretter.
So, good experiences in the past have been on the Nailbombs. I remember Tim recommending Holydivers in the past for a warmer tone than the NB bridge. I'm open to ideas now, as I'd like to salvage this guitar into something I really want to play all the time. the feel and vibe is perfect. The pickups are the final issue.
I don't play much metal, mostly rock. Output isn't really an issue. Alnico is preferred.
Rebel Yells?

Sounds like Nailbomns or Crawlers to me...
I love my Nailbombs - very versatile - at full volume you can get screaming metal, roll the volume back for crunch or clean.

Yeah. I really like the NBs I got in my S7320. (see? I keep having these shredder guitars, but I'm far from being a shredder!!!)
How are the crawlers? Tim once said that the 2 sets closest to the NBs in tone, but in different outputs, were the Rebel Yells and the Riff Raffs. I'm tempted to get a set of Rebel Yells with the etched covers! That'll be totally cool on my JP6!
