I'm currently having a custom Bernie Rico Jr. 7-string built, and i am having trouble deciding which pickups to get. The guitar will have a rosewood fingerboard, on a maple neck, with mahogany wings (neck-through). My amp is a Mesa Mark V. I play progressive metal, probably most comparable to Dream Theater, and im looking for a sound like petrucci's. Heavy, and articulate. Each note should sing out when i hit a big chord. I like a smooth lead tone, capable of shredding easily, since i do a lot of lead playing. I would also like something with a nice clean sound, and a nice coil tapped sound.
I had previously gotten the advice to get the Nailbombs, but i figured i would post my question here, and see what you guys have to say.

I would have suggested Nailbombs too. It should tick the boxes :)

I had nailbomb 7s put in my RG7321, has that vai/petrucci smooth bite to it but with great cleans too.

Yep, Nailbombs will definitely do the job here.
Cold Sweats could also be considered - you'll get a brighter, tighter and more modern sound from the bridge, and a smoother but harder-edged tone from the neck.

welcome :D
For the tickness of Petrucci sound I was told that the Miracle Man would be a good option, as well as the holydiver for a more versatile option (for better cleans and coil tap), especially if your guitar is a maple neck thru.
