Hey there,
I've just got an american standard strat (rosewood fretboard) a couple of weeks ago. The stock pickups are...ok I guess, but they need replacement and I know that any BKP set will absolutely crush them.
The stuff I play mainly is 80's and 90's rock (Alice in chains, Silverchair, Mötley crue, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Bush, Pearl Jam) and early metal (Priest, Sabbath, Motörhead and so on). On the side I play some Hendrix, SRV, Jeff Healy,Blink 182, No doubt and some bluesy stuff. I've got a les paul standard which covers a lot of the stuff I play but the strat will be a nice addition since it's much brighter and well...it's a strat.
I've contacted Tim and he sort of recommended me the Irish tour set or a Sinner with Irish tours. Before contacting him I was thinking of the Sinner with Trilogy suites. It would be great if you guys could share your minds cause I'm kinda stuck here...don't know what to order.
Long story short, I'm looking for:
-screaming, raunchy leads (Billy Corgan, KK Downing, Kurt Cobain etc)
-pinch harmonics (mucho importante, I like to just squeeze 'm in every now and then)
-nice full chords (Bush, Nirvana, Alice in Chains like)
-good cleans (less important than distorted sound though)
-versatility
I play most solos from the bridge pickup, same goes for chords.
I don't want to sound like Hendrix or SRV tonewise, I just play their stuff and give a modern twist to it.
I hope you guys can make my life a bit easier and help me out cause I can't wait to order and hot rod my strat.
Thanks (I hope :D)

Hi there man! The Sinner with Irish tour sounds interesting, hey that's because Tim recommended them! Kind of covers all the bases! I think some gentlemen here do have that combination also, they might pinch in! Welcome!!
-
Hey man, sure hope they do! Just seems like an odd combination (which might be great), mixing vintage with modern...you know.
Do hope there's someone who can tell me why I'd choose that combo over the Sinner/Trilogy set or the other way around
-
Well I've got the Sinner and the Trilogy and I would recommend you go with the Irish Tours.
I think that would give you a very versatile guitar whereas the Trilogy and the Sinner have a great overlap to my ears.
The ITs would complement the Sinner and extend the range not do double duty. As always, Tim is the guru!
-
Ok, fair enough. Don't you think it'll be like two complete different things in one guitar?
-
Shouldn't be. The ITs have alot of poke.
I would really pair Trilogies with a full humbucker.
-
Cool,so sinner + irish tours or irish tours set then.
Wouldn't a trilogy suite set be any good for the stuff I have in mind?
Irish tours set was Tim's first advice by the way, he opted to combine it with a sinner as well.
Just having a hard time to decide here (sorry) I'm a bit of a NOOB when it comes to pickups (especially BKP's)
and I just can seem to find a way to convince myself...
-
Sinner. :D
-
Irish Tours, however make sure they respond to the amp you have.
eg: stick a set of Irish Tours in and plug in to a Fender Bassman, it won't give you the sounds you want, plug them into the correct amp and your laughing.
great pickups.

Thanks for the replys guys. It's gonna be either a set of Irish tours or sinner/irish tours. Tim will have the last say in that,I'll mail him straight away. I'll let you know if I'm happey once installed, probably will be :D
-
irish tours more raunchy than trilogies
-
And that my friend, is just what I need...Irish Tours it is then. I've had contact with Tim again and he said that the Irish tours basically should be what i'm looking for. Irish tour ste, zinc plate in the bridge and middle pickup RW...exciting. Thanks again! :D
-
Bit late to this, but I think you'll love them (ITs) :D
-
Never too late man. I hope I'll love 'm. I already love my strat and really hope this will make it even better. :P
-
TIm is the final word...word!!He is THE man-you will be happy, bro

Did the pups arrive?

Haven't ordered yet...a new strat came into play but will be ordering anytime soon.
Must admit though that I'm really tempted to get a Trilogy suite set seen the good reviews and all...
I wonder if it will sound anything like Malmsteen though...
I'm gonna order as soon as my new strat (vintage hot rod 57) arrives, give it a couple of days and just see what strat needs which pickups,if you know what I mean...
