HI guys,I'm new in forum..i'm italian, sorry for my bad english..
I would like to replace pickup of my LP standard of 2004 that now is powered by Burtsbucker pro pickup and i don't love it..
I would like to have a couple of pickup with vintage sound, biting, hot and warm sound ,with a great dynamic
and espressivity that Burstbucker Pro do not have, and with just a little more punch and output to the bridge..
I like PAF sound!
What kind of balanced set do you advise to me???
thank you very much

Hi!
I think you should look at Mules and Black Dogs!
-
Hi, welcome to the forum :)
If you are interested in the Black Dog, have a listen to Hunter's clip in the following thread,

No,i don't think that black dog is very versatile,it is for Page's sound..Do you agree with me?

I don’t agree ;)
Don't be fooled by the name. Black dog is a slightly overwound PAF, and an excellent one at that. As versatile as a pickup of that type can be!
That one or the Mules should be right up your alley. Put simple, the Mules have less output and less midrange than the Black dogs. Based on what you wrote, I'd say Black dogs..

ok..thank you
And Riff Raff??????How is it?
-
The Riff Raff is bright, clear and open. Not a lot of warmth. Definitely a rock pickup, and not a singing blues pickup...
-
And which is a singing blues pickup???
Which pickup do you advise to me for bridge?and for neck?
-
I still stand by the BD recommendations. However, if you can give us a bit more specific description on the tone (like a tone on some song), it would narrow it down. Right now, there are many alternatives to achieve warm hot bite with an LP ;) However, you did describe it PAF.
How does the guitar sound acoustically? Is it dark or bright, somewhere in between? Lots of mids, less mids?

I haven't tried Black Dogs myself but they certainly don't sound like Page to me in this clip:

Black dogs, still! Maybe Emerald.
It still won't hurt to give Tim an e-mail; he's very rarely wrong. Just state your tonal requirements and the characteristics of the guitar clear and he'll be able to give you a very educated suggestion :) A rule of the thumb: Tim's recommendation > forum recommendation :) I think he's an LP-player mostly and has a whole bunch of them.

Tim told me to take a set of Riff Raff(bridge) and The Mule(neck)..
What do you think of this kind of set???
-
Still makes sense, an LP is by nature a quite warm sounding instrument. I don't know the Riff Raff well enough to really comment on it, other than to follow Tim's advice 8) The Mule neck however, will give you a woody, singing and articulate tone, but not weak by any means.
-
So?
What do you think of this set(Riff Raff(bridge) and The Mule(neck))???
Do you know which kind of Bare knuckle pickup are more similare to Burstbucker 1 and burstbucker 2 Gibson?
The Riff Raff is bright, clear and open. Not a lot of warmth. Definitely a rock pickup, and not a singing blues pickup...
What a pickup warmest? The Mule?
-
It'll be a rocking set in an LP, slightly more aggressive in the bridge than a Mule. I don't know if the Riff Raff differs from the Mule by other aspects than having an Alnico V magnet, instead of the Alnico IV magnet in the Mule. Alnico V has more highs and lows than the Alnico IV.
I'd say go for it :) Tim's has his reasons for suggestions.

In my experience, the warmest humbucker is an Alnico II Stormy Monday.
I don't agree with Tim's suggestion of a Riff Raff, but at the end of the day it's your choice!
-
in my LP classic antique, all mahogany with tonal chambers, the mules are definitely brighter than i thought from every description... this can depend mostly from the tonal chambers, that brighten the tone giving it that snapping attack typical of hollow-bodies. AND from the fact that actually my bridge mule has got an A5 instead of the traditional A4 magnet.
anyway if you're looking for an expressive and dynamic pickup that's great for rock, hard rock and blues, you can't go wrong with the mules.
if you feel that your LP is acoustically bright and want to darken things a bit then black dog in the bridge. no direct experience, but it's basically an overwound and darker mule.
i'd stick with the neck mule, anyway. i can't imagine how anyone could dislike it! ;)
i can't comment Tim's suggestion because i've never focused my attention on riff raffs, so i don't know much about them.
-
Are The Mule and Stormy monday dynamic and expressive???
What are the differences between these two pickups? the output only?
-
Stormy Monday is softer sounding, they're both very dynamic.
If you have doubts (as you obviously have), ask Tim again about your concerns. It's his chosen job to make you a product that gives you the desired tone, and he knows his craft better than anyone.
