Title: Straplock buttons too narrow gauge
Post by: fbloke on October 27, 2009, 11:16:28 PM
Folks,

I'm trying to fit straplocks to my Les Paul but they're thinner than the original strap button so don't tighten up to the body properly.  I've coated the screws in all-purpose strong adhesive and screwed them back in. I'm now waiting for it to set.

Is this a good idea?  Should I have packed the screw holes with something or do you think that the adhesive will hold?

Thanks,

Mike.

Matchsticks + a dab of wood glue into the hole.... provides something for the screw thread to bite on but can be unscrewed when needed.

You solution sounds quite a bit more permanent but how often do you change strap lock pins?  :?

Next time, just use the original screws in the guitar. It only takes a little work to make the hole in the actual straplock a bit wider to accept it.

Or use Dunlop straplocks which use a 1/8" screw - and fits the Gibson made hole somewhat better
