Title: Piezo Systems
Post by: Jonny on October 27, 2009, 11:35:08 PM
I don't really know how to describe what I'm asking but basically if a guitar bridge and the guitar itself didn't have a piezo system, what would you have to do, to install a piezo system? Would you have to re-build the whole bridge, i.e. the saddles, etc.

I don't want to install a Roland one that goes under/beside the bridge.

Electric guitar by the way.

Are you looking for a MIDI controller or acoustic type sounds, or both?

The Roland you mention is probably the GK-3 http://www.roland.com/products/en/GK-3/ (http://www.roland.com/products/en/GK-3/) which is used as the first stage in a midi guitar set up, it's not a piezo device.

For acoustic sounds you can get piezo replacements for Strat and TOM bridges from LR Baggs http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products/products_pickups.shtml (http://www.lrbaggs.com/html/products/products_pickups.shtml) or Graphtech make replacement saddles for most types of electric guitar which will do both acoustic and MIDI http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?SubCategoryID=19 (http://www.graphtech.com/products.html?SubCategoryID=19)

Acoustic sound. And thanks for that info.

It's an Ibanez bridge, so I'd probably have to get something custom made for the bridge. Ugh.. money.

Graphtech don't show it on their site so maybe they don't make it anymore, but I have seen someone with an original Ibanez Edge fitted with the Ghost version of the Floyd Rose string saver saddles.

If it's a newer style Ibanez trem I think the cost of a one off custom piezo upgrade would be outrageous. A new guitar would be cheaper ;)

Or maybe look out for a Double Edge which Ibanez fitted on some models in the late 90s.

There is an Edge Piezo but I'm looking at a sort of Gibraltar bridge with piezo.

The Ghost system works well
Johnny Mac hs one on his Lion and we have fitted a few others
Best version is in a tunamatic bridge - should work as a replacement to a Gibraltar surely?

If the routing/filling job isn't that expensive then maybe so, Jonathan.
