Title: Got my MQ's today!
Post by: Ratrod on November 10, 2005, 06:02:11 PM
The mailman delivered my MQ's today. I put them in my guitar right away. They look great and even better, they sound great. I still have to fine tune them a bit but they sound exactly how I wanted them to sound. They have the growl and the twang and a great nazal 'snarl' on the higher strings. You hardly notice they are single coils, very warm and fat. I played along to some rockabilly songs and the sound is spot on.

Steve, Tim, thanks!  PDT_003

More pics to come, it's too dark to take a half decent pic of the guitar.

I'll see if I can get some clips together this month.

I've put them in my Dean Psychobilly (hollow body). I'll post a pic tomorrow. The covers are raw nickel Manhattan covers.

yeah, the design of those pickup covers looks quite 'retro' and fits the vibe of the guitar very nicely, Ratrod!

Thanks guys! :D

It sounds as wicked as it looks. The cleans are pure classic, like an old Guild, great for old school rockabilly, country and even a bit of jazz. Very nice too when you add a little grit to it. With full distortion it's pure rock, bad side of the tracks blues and modern rockabilly. Surprising arsenal of good useable tones from those MQ's. The guitar came to life! It sounds like your fingers want it to.

It has bcome a real player's axe. I took the pickguard off btw, and it stays that way!

I love my MQ - there is something about the width of the tone that fills the room.  Very good pickups!

I fiels tested the pickups yesterday in band rehearsal. Great!

Everyone was impressed. The lead guitarist has gotten interested. I'm talking him out of getting a Korean Gretsch or TV-trons (wich are double screw coil humbuckers, I believe and not actual Filtertrons under a humbucker cover).

He currently has a DeArmond X155 wich is a good guitar and would sound great with MQ's. It would become a better guitar than a Korean Gretsch.

I'll probably have to order him a set soon.

Another one converted.
